Here's my shy Blue Copper Marans trying to hide from the camera a couple of months ago. "Ivan" has filled out even more since then and is picking fights with the Jersey Giant rooster through the fence.

I'm sure that she would have agreed, laughed and said that was even better!

Okay silly questin here...Why aren't my chickens molting? My marans are a little over a year and the rest are about 7 months. Are they too young to molt or are they just late? I'm still getting 5-8 eggs a day out of 9 hens I'm not useing any special light, just letting nature do it's thing. Do they skip the first year or will it happen later?

I met your gramma once ...a very nice lady . Your Grandpa & her were visiting my mother in law ...who didnt get out much .
She really appreciated them visiting her .

It also might be too early / they may be too young ...
Do you do fermented feed ? As I do & Ive only had 1 hen do a light molt ..she is about 1 1/2 years old .She never got naked ...just lost about 1/2 her feathers .The other 3 the same age have not molted at all
My roo who is about 2 ? is doing the same ..a light molt . thats how I got the tail feathers for my hair ....on fair day ..
Nothing to worry about ...

You are a very mature young man, I must say! I was impressed with you before I knew your age, and now am even more so. Keep up your high standards for your birds and yourself...I think you're on a terrific path in life!

I need some help here.

I've got some young ones to give away, pullets and roos, chicks and older. I've got a BM Marans not yet laying pullet I'll give up cuz she's showing copper. I hate to give them up but you can have all the CR's.  4 hens and one roo.  Or just the roo and two hens if you'd like.

The young ones are Frizzle/Del crosses.

You must take them all.  Total we're talking 12 plus chickens.

Rancher if you wanted to meet in canastota or around there I would take the birds and make you some form of trade

Thats awesome what kind are they?

So I'm curious as to know if your chickens are a good weight. I am not worried about any of them but i want to make sure they stay healthy. Any input would be great!

So i introduced my 2 leghorns orpington to the big flock last night all went well they free ranged a bit and roosted on the high roost. My son has been home sick so hes keeping on eye on them.

Off to work havea good day.

I agree with Lap, it is the older chickens who are doi g the major molt. Mama spent the summer with a spot of missing feathers on her back, then she was exchanging feathers in a more graceful way. Stewie had one other molt, but is doing it in a big and nasty way this time...Stewie and Mama have had three summers. The three other rocks have had two summers, and one is almost as bad as Stewie, and they all are chasing the others around. The two who pretended to be BOs, and are two summers old have molted, one had to wear a winged saddle because she was such a favorite of Earl. The three groups from this summer are gorgeous, as young girls are everywhere. They are trying to avoid their mean aunties, and don't even dare try for the sporadic treats offered.

Someone else a few days ago said that her flock was molting by breed, that too seems to be the case here.
