NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a bit of an emergency and need some advice.

I've been noticing my newest splash silkie just hasn't been looking right in the last two or three days. She's always huddled up by herself in the coop and just looks lonely. Her head is always tucked low instead of ever upright. Yesterday I put the heat lamp next the coop and I noticed she had been laying next to it this morning. She can still walk, she's still eating and drinking. I finally managed to pick her up out of the coop and she felt sooooo light compared to my splash cockerel (who I had to take out of the coop as well for a moment) I was checking her over and noticed her feet and rear were sooo gross and filthy so I decided to bring in her inside to get her washed up. As I was blow drying her legs and rear I happened to lift up on wing and then the other. I noticed that one wing seems so "lifeless" where as when I did it to the other wing she immediately pulled it back. Could it be possible she broke one of her wings? How would one help something like that to heal?!? And could a bird even live with a broken wing?? I feel so bad for her I don't know what to do. But I do not want to put her back in the coop because she just doesn't seem to be doing well in there. I am so upset over this and I really hope there is something I can do for her....

Someone laid a 3 3/8 oz egg. I thought they would stop that now that they havebeen laying for a bit. Well i did get one two weeks ago as well. Omg ouch i know my sex links are big but still ouch baby. But they look fine. Its cool to see a big egg no doubt but i worry when they do that.

I noticed that when they skip a day or two and lay again, the egg is slightly larger. Can only imagine if they skipped two weeks, LOL! I worry, also, if they seem to spend more time than usual in the nest box or lay a larger-than-usual egg. But then I worry over everything.

Almost happy enough to declare it a national holiday! This has made my day.

Now I've got just 1 bird of my older 4 (also a Columbian Rock) that has yet to lay, and 2 of my 3 younger birds left to join the ranks.

Molly is the bird on the right. Ursa, although larger, has not had her comb and wattle redden up very much. This is a pic from earlier in the fall, but she's still not a whole lot redder. C'mon Ursa! Guess she's a "late bloomer!"

Oh, Lynzi. I just noticed this. I feel so badly for your silkie and also for you. I wish I had some good advice to give you, but unfortunately I would be in the same boat you are, wondering what was best. I would venture to say that bringing her inside where it's quiet and warm might be best, but even in that hunch, I may not be right. Maybe a course of antibiotics? I really hope you can get her back on track, Lynzi.

To help prompt hens to lay, feed them cabbage. It helps, don't know why.

I think it has to do with cleaning out the system ...Cabbage can do that for us

they can live ...the key is getting to to set right
I would google set a broken chicken wing ...Probably get all kind of recipes .
I am wondering if this happened when the other one was killed ...they were together most of the time right ? this ones wing may have gotten pinned .

containers for Feed -
Everyone lives near a Walmart right ? the deli has heavy duty plastic 5 gallon ? containers ..( hold almost a 1/2 bag of feed ).they will either sell them for 10- 50 cents
Or give them to you free . You got to wash them out . Look like this

Or for smaller containers - metal popcorn containers ...

My silkies are kept separate from all the other birds, they never leave the coop. I had a rubbermaid bin set aside that I put her in with some pine shavings and hay with a heat lamp over it to keep her warm. She's just sleeping now. I feel like thats all she's been doing all morning after I brought them more food. She ate and then went back to the corner to sleep. I really hope I don't lose this bird.

Tanks TOB, I did finishing blow drying her. She seems to liked that, kept huddling up closer to me as I was finishing her up. Then she tucked her head into her back and slept. She's in the shed again but under a heat lamp and I closed the door to the shed so the wind doesn't cause a draft in there for her. I'll be checking on her in a few to make sure she's at least moving around in there and not roasting under the heat lamp. I am just so in love with this silkie hen, I really hope I can help whatever it is that is wrong with her, whether it is just the wing that feels broken, or if its something else that is causing her to act so lifeless.

I like the Brown in that they have a camouflage factor the whites and blacks do not. Same white eggs different color bird. Not that you asked.
Oh thanks though i appreciate it. I have one golden duckwing male and one white female. I understand about the camo i was hoping to get some mixtures with my male so i wanted sone different colors to experiment with and hopefully get more duck wing females from the guy i got him from but he lives in Ok so maybe in spring. Then the rest are just hybrids i will producing for eggs and meat.
Saw this, this morning and thought that it was co cute needed to share..It seems to be the story of my life!!
Hahahahaha tell me bout it! TOB congrats on the new layers. Yeah my sexlinks are a special bunch! Glass, your hen puts my roo to shame lol those are some spurs. Lynzi try tuna vitamins and oregano oil or leaves and ACV in her water. Good luck and keep us posted same thing happened to my girl though she was on her side. We quickly removed her and she recovered quite well.
