NY chicken lover!!!!

Make sure you don't put the cotton anywhere near wires. You may have to remove the entire electrical box. If you go stuffing cotton in next to the outlets and wires, you may end up fixing the mouse problem by burning the house down.

For sure. I didn't realize someone might put the cotton IN the box. I should have been clearer. PULL the box OUT and stuff the cotton inside the wall. Though I'm not sure why taking the box our and just putting some drops of the oil inside on the wood would not work just as well.

In our old house I pulled the top molding off the base board and used a knitting needle to stick the dead stinking mouse and pull it out after having used poison. So if you have this type of trim you could just pull that off and stuff the cotton ball into the wall.

I sure would have hated to pay to replace the Oak trim in our old house.

What ever works I guess. Perhaps turn the power off first might be safest.

oh yeah cottonseed oil can start a fire from being smuthered right or something like that, be very careful.

We're talking Mint oil. Putting it on cotton balls and stuffing them inside the wall. I reckon you could also leave some in corners or under furniture instead. Whatever works and is safe.

Oh I definitely planned on taking the entire BOX out of the wall and try tossing it deep into the wall, away from any kind of wire. However, maybe I'll just place them down in the cellar. Just to be clear - if we ever use the poison bait stuff it is completely out of the way of any human activity or animal activity - it's in my basement! And since it's unfinished and a just crawling with spiders and cobwebs, no one goes down there other than DH to tend to the water softener or tell me where the oil is at. The door to the basement is in the main bathroom and there's even a lock on it, TWO locks on it actually! LOL

But maybe for now I'll just soak some rags in the mint oil and place them down in the basement. See if that helps. Not sure it'll help with the one(s) already in the walls but it's worth a shot.

Lynzi is it Gru who seems a bit off by the light? My Rajesh isn't but we have a lot of spillage from other lights so he's use to it now. He should over time get use to it. How is he looking by the way?
Yes it is Gru, but my silkie roo has also been crowing from inside the shed. I don't hear him too often because he is "inside" there so if I can't hear him from inside the house, I assume the only reason Gru is crowing is because he heard my silkie crowing. Gru is not a big crow-er luckily! He usually only crows if he hears another one start it.

Gotta say, I thought the same thing: flammable oil soaked cotton and the chance of a spark in an outlet? That made me a little nervous.

Mint oil is also good as a natural insect repellent. And I love the way it smells!

I missed this whole mint oil thing. Guessing it is supposed to keep rodents away from the convo. I seriously doubt it would work. I watch rodents all summer long run through mint growing all over my land. The smell of mint does not seem to bother them in the least.
