NY chicken lover!!!!

Well, do let me know if the mint oil works ...

I'm using traps too - AND I'm sprinkling some natural pepper mixed junk around the house ... sill have one in the walls ! and it is not falling for the traps yet. Can't afford a dead one in the walls (had a stinker last year) because guests are coming in 4 days (city folk! who wouldn't understand). Argh ....

We had mice once. Crazy things were under the kitchen sink and in a drawer. A couple days and some snap traps, we haven't had a problem since. Mice can fit through the smallest holes and cracks. I say kill them, don't deter them. They're nasty disease carrying critters.

On another note, I put silkie eggs in the incubator last Saturday. I have 2 giver uppers today and thought I'd share a pic of the bad ones. You can clearly see the blood ring. It was the same with both eggs.

I had read that Cabbage and those in that family are not good for chickens. Poisonous in fact. Keep in mind there are varying opinions out there so even the "experts" disagree. I've grown cabbage and Brussels sprouts and they never bothered them.

However I have dumped a head in the compost and they ate it. This is what I mean by the "experts". Lets ask Stonyhill.

i threw out a head of cabbage on the lawn about 3 weeks ago and they ate the whole thing

on another note, my 3 month vacation(unemployment) is over I start a new job tomorrow only 5 miles from home.. am very nervous and hope my body is physically ready for it after being sick. but there will be no stress, no management job this time, I go in and do my job and go home and worry about nothing---- I wont know what to do with myself. (except keep clipping coupons since I took a 25% pay cut.) wooo hooo, I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

my chickens are not fond of cabbage. They eat it.....eventually.The ducks however love it. Chickens seem to know what they can and can not eat. Just like most birds and animals. They know better than humans what to eat and what not too.
There a a gazillion threads on BYC about hanging cabbage in a pen for chickens. If it is poisonous there must be hundreds of BYC members who lost their birds.

I have never had a bird die or get sick from eating cabbage. That means more to me than anything written anywhere,
