NY chicken lover!!!!

Evening all. Slipped and slid my way home from work. We are getting snow/sleet/freezing rain/rain crap. I had some idiot up my butt coming up the mountain flashing his lights at me. Had to be one of the citiots who have moved up here. People down here just dont know how to drive in snow, etc. Being a former tug hill girl, it vexes me to have to put up with these drivers in winter (or anytime for that matter). Getting my snow tires put on tomorrow so we shouldnt get any snow for a while because I am getting them on!

Thelma and Louise (my heritage rir hens) were the only two girls who were willing to come out into the run to see what goodies I had. Didnt seem to bother them a bit and they got the goodies I had. The rest of the terrorists hid in the coop except Bill (my heritage rir roo).. He was under the coop next to the ramp keeping an eye on what I was doing with Thelma and Louise. I called him a wuss, being shown up by two girls walking through the snow like it was nothing. He crowed at me. I grabbed the eggs and left for work.

I hope that those of you north of me dont get too hammered with snow. I will have to call my mother in Gouverneur to see how much she got.

Stony--you crack me up.

Pyxis--sorry you had to waste your time driving. How are those eggs doing?

Okay--this tired old lady is headed to bed. Stay warm and safe and the same for your cheeps!

My girls do NOT appreciate Old Man Winter making an early arrival.
I've read to use a 2X4 with the 4 side up. That way when they roost they cover their entire foot with feathers.
That's how I have my 2x4. Girls have toasty toes no matter how cold it gets. I know because I check them when I check them after dark. I think that sometimes their feet get to warm when I see them standing on the roost instead of poofed up and laying on them

Mine are not snow birds either. When it started snowing they were under their A frame hut. I reminded them they had to walk thru the snow to get to the coop to roost. Apparently they survived walking thru the snow since they were all roosted when I got home

I tried the 2 x 4 flat to see if they liked it better that way ..they seem to prefer it on the side .

I finally remembered to take a pic of the rope light I use in the coop. The pic shows my light in the ceiling but I only use it when I need a brighter light. The orange rope light gives me enough light but doesn't upset the chickens if I have to move around them at night. My coop consists of a roosting section and the egg laying section, 2- 8x10ft buildings side by side. I still have those 6 BCM roo's I need to get rid of. Ugh!

Cool light ! which ones are the 6 BCM roo's ?

Morning all. Lots of rain falling here. Might need a boat today. Hopefully this means the ice has melted off the roads. Dh said the cheeps must be getting cabin fever as they all bailed out of the coop and are hiding under it now. At least I wont have to worry about frozen water today. That will start tomorrow.

Be safe in your travels today and tomorrow everyone.

The lights look cool. I picked up red rope lighting (my favorite color) to hang around outside of coop and put an end inside as well (maybe). I just need to take the time to hang it. Actually I am waiting for my Muck boots so my toes dont freeze :)
