NY chicken lover!!!!

Sebastapol geese. My Thanksgiving treat to my self....:celebrate They are afraid of me, but the 2 ganders took bread from my hand, the girls held back. I have white & colored. They are a little dirty, hoping to get them a small pool when I move them to permanent pen tomorrow.
Those are some pretty cool geese. I've always wanted a pair of geese but have heard they can be horribly mean.

Morning!
Heading to Deruyter tonight to have our second Thanksgiving and DH's aunts house. I made 3 more pies yesterday after work. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Speaking of work they started taking double of my portion of the health benefits out of my check for when I was out on maternity. And I have yet to see the sign on bonus and the pay raise they forgot to pay me 2 weeks ago from the new contract. It just irks me and then they say "we're looking into it".
Have fun!!
Yeah that sucks I had a problem similar back when I was out for surgery they didn't put in my stuff right after I set it up so it was a nightmare getting paid at that point I called every person possible at headquarters. Good luck I hope you can get it worked out.

Thanks ...They are a brand then ..I guess I need to look around ..
Are you in the city or the country ? sounds more country critters to me
He Aint complaining ! mine doesnt ! ...He enjoys chasing the smaller Roos ...That is why the Samatras were flying ...LOL
Love It ! So Cute !
My rubber boots are so cold ..I cant add enough socks ..
I have to get something ...I cant stay out in this cold very long ..

Well actually those are city dwellers especially skunks and raccoons. I haven't had a huge problem with the skunks I mean the dogs and I just slowly and calmly walk away and all is well. Skunks especially the striped tail are awesome in the sense of their survival skills and lack of fear! Raccoons live everywhere don't be fooled. Possums live everywhere as well and have taken down several of my friends city flocks. Again don't be fooled These creatures weasel included can and have for many years adapted well to urban life. Woodchucks just dig awesome holes and eat your garden. The dogs have helped and so have some of the ferrel cats but again. The city can may nab the rest of those cats and I would still need a secondary plan, and if one of those cats decided to go after one of my chooks I would need to take care of it.

Like I said the guy trapped the woodchuck for me and repaired some things for me. But the raccoons and possums have been there but most likely kill by a couple of hungry stray dogs, but that was then I just want to be prepared for when the next ones come back. I've seen them all but the raccoon we only seen the paw prints and they were huge. The weasel critters I've only heard about.

Honestly in my neighborhood there are a lot of skunks they just don't give a care. I swear our county is just over run with them.

This was my little friend when we first moved in.

I would love to have geese too, but my younger son who is usually accepting and supportive hates geese. We camped in an area where there were geese, and one of them chased him all over with its wings out and neck extended. He was really fast, and the goose was really ******. The goose was about his size....he still can't find any beauty in those birds.

you're not likely to find insulated mucks at Wal or Kmart... maybe in boys... depends on what shoe size you wear, if you can get the smallest mans boot or the biggest boys boot... they have more in the way of warmth for the guys... but, you get what you pay for, and you don't want a plain rubber boot, like a rain boot... for the winter, you're feet will be very cold unless you pile on the wool socks...
I tried to get the pic from LLBean... but it was taking too long, I took this pic last Spring when my granddaughter was here, our "posh" Wellies...

You can find some muck's on Wal-Mart.com if you online shop. It looked like they were more for men and kids though...

I spent yesterday searching online for a new pair of Mucks for hubby. TSC has pretty good prices, have some on sale for $69.99 that I wanted to get. But they didn't have his size in our local store. Empire Tractor, Lilley's Tack & Feed, CNY Farm Supply are also local to me and carry Mucks. I checked WalMart.com but prices werent any better, especially when i can get Farm Tax Exempt in the farm stores. We both have the black mid-calf Chore boots. Hubby acquired his pair with the house, the deceased husband that owned the house wore the same size.

That is one reason I got the Sebastapols.. They are a smaller goose and not so aggressive. Any gander during mating season will threaten if they think you are going to hurt his goose. But usually after breeding & hatching is over, they return to their normal more quiet selves...I'll find out soon!

I never thought about a gander being aggressive. I have a BM rooster who has hit me a few times. Do Drakes act aggressive? I'm not up to dealing with more aggressive males. It is a factor I'll consider.

Morning All,
Well I haven't gotten anymore eggs from my KC duck. She laid 3 or 4 last week and then stopped. But I can't help picturing a rat named Templeton rolling an egg out of their house...LOL But no, there's no way for an egg to be removed from their coop without my opening the door to get it. So she must be taking a little break or something.

My Silkie laid another egg this morning but it was on the floor of the run under the coop. I need to place some fake eggs or golf balls in the nest box.

Marq - keep us updated on goose and gander behavior for future reference ;-)

Rancher - I have yet to have a problem with my drake but I don't think he's really begun mating with anyone. Stony would know I'm sure as he's had more than one drake at a time. I can't see them being aggressive towards people tho....
