NY chicken lover!!!!

Do you have a rescue that will spay or neuter it and relocate to a barn program? if not I can find you the number to the Cat Coalition.
I had a friend that adopted her cats from them. I think that this boy might actually be the neighbors from down the road. I'm going to take the picture to them and see if it is theirs. He (I think) is very healthy and fat. So he is eating really well. I know that he isn't the one neighbor on the one side cause she doen't have any cats. I'll have to ask. I let him out and havne't seen him again. I'm hoping that he learns his lesson. If I catch him again I will call them. It is sad he has such beautiful green eyes. If I didn't have my cat I would have tried to work with him. I follow his tracks and it looks like he comes in from the road. I haven't found any around the chicken run before (knock on wood)

Well another sick bird. This ones one foot is swollen and skin is flaking off. Inbetween toes is scabbed over. Not sure if she started to get frost bite or being picked on. Soaked it some used a nail brush to clean it off taking scabs and dirt off. Started to bleed alittle but Neosporin and vet wrap should it for tonight. She also sounds like she's alittle congested. Wasn't someone talking they use vet rx or something like that you spray on face to clear them up?

For those with the Brinsea - Anyone have some "recommended settings" they'd care to share with me? I've skimmed thru the instructions on how to use it, but since I've never dealt with an automatic egg turner and such, I'm a little confused as how to set it when it's asking for that info in minutes and angles. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

My girls and Gru enjoying a little snack...

Here are the runners I got from Ke today....The blue runner 2nd from the left and the black runner on the right top. The blue is going home with luvmychicks tomorrow.

Evening all. I miss one day and have to read 8 pages of posts. The insanity of retail is beginning to wind down. Of course that also means the scheduled hours are also being wound down as well Who can afford to work only 9 or 15 hours a week? Doesnt event pay for gas. Anyways, dh let the hen out for a bit today and then turned the terrorists loose. She was moving around okay but within 15 minutes of being out the terrorists, including Bill, were all after her, pecking her and Bill was on top of her pinning her to the ground. Dh rescued her and brought her back inside. He wants to give her some more time inside to put on weight. I am thinking that she wont be able to go back to the coop, even though she was raised with them. Might have to make a decision next week.

Interesting about the feed. I have used both and my chickens have eaten both with no problem. I have them on a non gmo feed now that my feed store started carrying. It smells better when you open the bag and their poops smell better and look better. They eat that up as well. I mix in some kelp with the feed so they eat it as they wont when I free feed it to them. Eggs (what few I am getting) are bigger now, like xlarge size. The yolks look nice and the shells are a good thickness. I was able to eat some and had a minimal reaction. My local feed store sells poulan. FYI--poulan makes an egg pusher now that is 21 percent protein. It was the last that I gave them before switching to the non gmo feed. Works pretty good.

I only have the brinsea octogon without the turner. I handturned my silkie eggs in it and had a fabulous hatch. It was a breeze to use.

Getting the itch real bad to hatch! You enablers are killing me.

The best part about having christmas at my house (besides having my dds home) is I dont have to cook the rest of the week. I love leftovers! Had turkey and gravy and potatoes and carrots for lunch at work then a nice turkey sandwich on homemade brown bread for dinner. I wont mention the baked stuff. Ugh...gotta get it all out of here soon!

Early day again at work tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

What non-GMO feed are are you feeding? I currently feed an organic feed which costs an arm and a leg.

I also LOVE eating leftovers!!!!! I bring it to work for lunch and eat it again for supper. I love to eat well but don't always have time to cook.

There is a place in Fulton that sells it, but I get if from someone in Canastota that delivers! I'll pm you his info.

Well the time before last I went to Country Max, paid for three bags of Egg Producer pellets. I went around to the back to have it loaded and got told, they don't have any. He did offer me a more expensive crumbles and I might have taken it had I not had some left at home. We were expecting snow.

So I decided to come back on Friday which I did. They had only ordered 6 bags. I decided to take all six and not run the risk of running out. Country Max in East Syracuse is notorious for not having the feed when I want it.

The same hold true when they have a sale on shavings. I wanted ten, the day the sale started. They had seven! I took five and went back for the other five at another time.

So what's my point? If I could get stuff delivered I would be happy.

I used to get shavings delivered and loaded on my front porch by Lees feed when I lived in the city and had guinea pigs.

I suspect I'm to far from Canastota.

Marquisella, I wanted to thank you for all the good information you have posted here for incubating. I paid attention and had a lot of good hatches with my own eggs last year, even the marans. Eggs from other people, shipped or picked up, mixed results. You are so right about how bad the LGs are. Mine did not even work well as a hatcher. I was adjusting it constantly trying to maintain temp and humidity. This year I will be focusing on Black Jersey Giants, LF Buff Cochins, and the lovely Blue Copper Marans I got from you. I lost one of the hens but have a very nice blue marans hen I got from Tab and Travis. Do you still have the blue coppers or are you completely out of them now? And you are right, the marans eat more than the other chickens, even the JGs.
I sold all my blue Marans, I'm trying to do Birchen Marans, but finding them more difficult to work with. If I get enough Birchens to work with, I may sell off my black Coppers...I can only have so many birds here...especially since I got the geese & ducks...
