NY chicken lover!!!!

TY for the advice! I think the little tiny silkie is the hen. The frizzle and straight sizzle seem to act like roos. When startled the silkie hides behind them, they look around with their necks outstretched. We thought maybe they do this because they are different breeds, Cochin mix as opposed to pure silkie. The big frizzle keeps pecking the smaller smooth sizzle on the head, but it's always done that, since the big frizzle helped get the smooth out of it's shell. We are hoping they all get along! We'll just give it more time and see what happens! Thanks for the advice!

I currently have 7 roosters. They have their issues with each other but no blood. There are plenty of hens around so they are not fighting over hens, just over who is the top dog. I would say that it will be a "wait and see" on your youngun's.

Well Golden Star the Buff Orp and Agnes the BR went to their new home today w/Payner59! I'm finally down to my trio of Orps and when the weather gets warmer I can start my plans for these guys as far giving the silkies the bigger coop and whatever other bantams I get. (already have a pair coming from Ke, a mottled cochin and black frizzle) My goal is to have all this done by end of March so everyone is settled and where they should be for the start of the Spring and stays that way thru the end of the year. No moving anyone around this year, where they are is where they will stay!

I would be more concerned for the 1 pullet with ?3 breeding age males. They will use the poor girl to raggedness. The boys will "most likely" work out their own pecking order. Good luck.

I had to share this, I would laugh every time I heard it crow.

Ke5hde, why aren't your barnies working out? Mine are the only ones laying right now.

The barnies are great. I actually got rid of the australorps when I got the barnies. I have 8 girls and get 5-6 eggs a day from them. These guys aren't going anywhere :) I have some of their eggs in the incubator right now. I put 17 in and have 7 that seem like they're growing. The other 10 are clear. I expected that though anyway.

Not sure if I've asked this here before but does anyone here Spin or know of anyone who does? I was thinking if I go to this picnic in May I'll start gathering some portions of angora wool to bring with me either for the taking or for the auction? I just don't know that it's something you all would want thrown into the auction and then if no one knows of anyone who spins they're stuck with a bag of wool. LOL

I have friends who spin! It's something that I've been trying to find the time to do once or twice.

I agree with Cass wait & see . I have 4 Roosters ..most of the time they all get along .
Were they straight run ? Unsexed ? if they grow up together sometimes they are okay
The one you think is a roo could be a hen ...hens do the pecking order thing too .
just for fun ..try this ...no real science here
for young chicks
pick it up flip it on its back ...some people say if it fights & tries to right itself its a roo ...if it remains in the position its a hen ..

We did this with our 1st flock - 1 was a roo . it worked
Our 2nd flock - samatras - roo & hen let us do this

Oh I must have misread your previous post. How dark are their eggs?
