NY chicken lover!!!!

If our barn was still up we'd be on our way by now, but it collapsed a few years and we have been working on the house instead of trying to put up a new barn...

As for mini horses..Well I have always wanted to have 8 mini horses and train them to pull a carriage like a draft horse hitch..only mini's...How cool would that be in a parade to see a 8 horse mini hitch! I alss have a crazy dream to get a white cow and train her to pull a cart so that I can take her in parades too and color her rainbow colors...Wouldn't that be cool to see a rainbow cow pulling a cart in a parade!

I know now you all think that I'm nuts...

Are you in an area with a large Amish population? We are and they do amazing work! Seem like very honest decent people too, if you're looking for barn repair.
Craigslist had a small cart, suitable for a dog or goat for sale. Sooo, I had to look up goat carts. OMG it is the funniest thing ever to see a goat pulling a cart in all different directions. I LOVE the idea of 8 mini horses pulling a carriage or a rainbow cow in a parade. You know how people have their photos taken on horseback when they get married? Well, we are planning to get married and I thought it'd be hilarious to get a Mexican style blanket and little donkeys for the wedding pics. Maybe even hold a bag of Juan Valdez coffee!

But imagine having 8 mini horses pulling the wedding party.

If you do the white cow thing, you HAVE to paint her toenails/hoofs.

Kelly Clarkson made the whole getting married on a farm theme really popular. You could make $$$ renting the minihorse and buggy for the farm wedding parties! You could definitely deck out a white cow in the wedding colors and do photo ops. That would be sooo cool! That would be one talented cow! You have awesome ideas!

I love the mini cows I was doing some research on them the other week. DH always said that I could have a farm...a Mini Farm with all mini animals...Mini chickens, mini horses, mini goats, mini pigs, and mini cows. They are so cute, but very expensive!

Look Lynzi they even have mini Scottish highlanders! ( I found the picture on the internet)

Pic is from a farm in CA

I want one also!!!! Or the mini beef~angus I think they are, we have two acres but with the goats it would have to share. Someone told my husband that there isn't much meat on them it is just a selling lie...don't know but I love them!

We have Nigerian Dwarf goats, third year for us and yes you can learn to do pretty everything they need done. I even have learned to draw blood for the year test we need and pregnancy test! I have a great vet(friend) and a farmer `friend, but books have so much information in them! We hope this year we will have some for sale. They are the kids show goats and have done well at local shows. I also can say duck eggs are the best for cooking!

They actually have a pregnacy test for farm animals? What will they think of next. Do goats hooves have to be filed/trimmed like horses and cows?

(I once saw a horse with hooves so long he could hardly walk. It was terrible and sooooo unnecessary.)

And Why do birds? Horses that are driven on the road need shoes....so that is another expense....the blacksmith. And imagine how much polish for all those nails is gonna cost.

I know everyone is from various parts of NY, but my DD is going to FLCC in Canadaigua this fall and we were out there today looking for a room or a small apartment and a part time job for her. We discovered a place to stay will cost her more then the tution! But my question is, does anyone know a greenhouse or a farm in the area that would be looking for experienced help? She has 4 years of milking on a 1000 cow dairy and 4 years at a greenhouse, can drive a tractor or forklift. Thanks, just asking....hope this was ok.

. Or a room to rent that isn't a arm and a leg? Thanks

My chickens are now finally starting to lay!!! 19 eggs today! So happy!

the web site I read said that one of the mini-beef cows can feed a family of 4 for a little more than 4 months.....so that isn't a LOT of meat, but it is meat...and the mini's have a high conversion rate for food to beef.

Oh you can polish the nails! Black and shinny are the best! Well I think walking on the road without shoes for a horse would be like you walking with out shoes! ouch!
Yup, blood test 30 days post buck removal or exposure great test if you can't see them come into season! One year we didn't do the test and one doe didn't get to show( have to have milk to show)

All hooved animals need them trimmed. I have 3 horses and they get trimmed every. 2 months for $90. Plus the feed is a huge factor now that corn is grown for fuel not feed. I payore about 30 percent more in feed than last year. If just keeps going up.
