NY chicken lover!!!!

my wife's truck is legal again. Finally fooled the computer into passing the test. I figure the check engine light will be on next trip out. But who cares...good for another year!

Finally some "warmer" weather! I've been outside almost all morning. The woman who owns the horse across the street stopped by earlier and while she was here I asked her if I could purchase a bale of hay from her, she called the guy down the road who actually owns the barn across the street from her and has all the hay and he brought me a bale 20 minutes later. What's the difference between 1st cutting and 2nd cutting hay? I only get this stuff to place in the cages of my rabbits, use a little for the nestboxes in the coop so this bale will literally last me year. But this bale compared to last two I've had is so much nicer. It's more green and fluffy. Reminds me of easter basket grass. LOL I'll be getting it from them from now on, I really like it much better.
First cut is exactly that the first cutting of the year. When most people think of hay they think of the weed first cut. The second cut is the second time that they grass grows. Tends to be softer and better quality. More nutrition too. When you cut your yard for the first time it tends to be weedy and brown, kinda of crappy, but then after you have cut your grass a few times the grass looks better and is fuller..Kind of the same thing with the hay..Most time a farmer will be able to get a first and second cut before fall & winter.

Glad that you got it inspected. Usually the people that do the inspection can plug in the car and see that the light was just on.

Ohhh OK, then I definitely see the difference in the two bales I had compared to the one I have now. This one is much nicer so it much be 2nd cutting. I'll keep that in mind for future use - thanks!

One thing I've learned about chickens is there isn't money in it. I just sell eggs to get something to donate and a bit to off set the feed but I'm def not making any money.

I set my limit to how many I can keep. Jlaw, you gotta figure the cost of running that incubator. It doesn't run for free.

It doesn't pay for me to drive the extras to an auction so I just give them away. Saves me food and gas money. I don't process cuz I don't think there's enough meat to make it worth my trouble. I should I suppose since that blasted BM roo came at me again. What a stupid bird.

I don't expect to hatch anymore if at all . I am I suppose, commited to buy some eggs from a friend of mine in GA though. I hate to tell him I've decided not to.

Laying has picked up some. Mostly EE's and BM's. The Dels are doing okay too.
