NY chicken lover!!!!

Snow Day today. The Girls weren't happy that they had to stay inside their coop for an extra 30 minutes while I made the kids breakfast first. They like it when I have the run shoveled. I have to remember to leave them locked up till I finish. They follow me as I'm shoveling and there was a few times that I stepped back and almost stepped on someone.

Welcome and I too Tab are caught up for now!
Rancher do the hoopcoops warm up like a greenhouse does? I know in a greenhouse the ground warms the air also.

I can't really say except it's usuall 5* warmer in the hoop pictured than the wooden coop. I had to take part of the plastic off the run cuz it does get the morning sun and is warm. If you build one I would place it so the front is facing the morning sun.

I have hung a fan inside the run cuz the temps get quite high.

My shaded hoop is not so hot. It sits just inside the woods. This is how it's been all winter. The roo did get frost bit. Last year no. The back looks open but it's covered with feed bags. In the summer it's hidden by the trees.

Morning all. Got my two hour workout in already. Shoveled 8 inches of snow to all the coops, shoveled out the runs and the driveway. By the time we were done another two inches had fallen so we shoveled out way back to the back door. Still coming down hot and heavy. Looks like we will get a couple of workouts in today. No sign of a plow anywhere. My cat is happy that I am home today. She gets lonesome when I am at work. As usual, Thelma and Louise were the first out the pop door when dh opened it. I had to force Little Man and his women out the door so they would go get a drink this morning. I will definately have to put plastic up on the sides of their run next year for winter. This winter has seen a lot of snow blowing in there.

I will use today to try to finish the left side of this sweater and start the right side. Trying to get it done this month. I want to start my nephews afghan soon.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Lord have mercy they closed all the schools and it is nothing. There is no snow here at all hardly. I will have to snow blow but there can't be more than 3-4"s out there. Perhaps my memory fails me but I don't recall this many snow days when I was in school. And we had to walk to school up hill both ways.

Snow day here too. Bummed cuz I really wanted to get to the mall today but I can't even see my road. Doesn't look like the snow is stopping any time soon either.

Chickens are in, ducks are out. Already made their way out to their pond. Funny, you would think with that old house of theirs I placed out near the pond, that has a ton of hay/straw in it, that they'd just stay out there and go in THAT house to warm up and then take a step to the pond. But no, they come all the way back across the yard go into their main house for a bit, then venture out again. They do this all day long. And during those trips back and forth they stop to lay down and warm up their feet.

There is a house right there for you! Weirdos! LOL

Still no eggs coming from anyone now that Stella has taken a break. I was really hoping to get some duck eggs by now but I guess they're not ready. I think my silkies may pick up soon. I reached in to pet my lavender this morning when I was out there to feed them and she squatted down. Would be nice to get some eggs from them soon so I can try another hatch. Then again I'd probably have to wait a whole 'nother month before they were actually fertile enough.

Breella ~ Congrats on the hatch!!!!!

Rancher not only did you out dibs me on the lav roo but now you are feeding my chicken math problem. You gave me an idea for a hybrid pallet/welded wire coop. Was just going to build a small 4x8 elevated coop but now I can go bigger, and it is your fault. I blame you and am going to stick with that.

My favorite expression of late is "I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you"

Breella very cute!!! Glad you're having a good hatch!

The snow has picked up again here. Hubby said the roads were pretty crappy this am around 8:30. I don't have to be in to work until 1 so I;ll just wait till they can catch up. It's really not that much but there is ice underneath.

I definitely need to beef up the roof over the run. The way it's set up just isn't cutting it and then I can keep the litter in the run drier.

I just realized my EE is 8 months old and still no egg! She's been very red in the face since beginning of Dec., the rooster is dancing for her.....no eggs. I'm hoping that means she has a good Ameraucana background if she's taking this long which will hopefully give me a nice blue egg.
I'm still waiting on my dark brahma to lay as well but I expect her to take another month or so.

Time to be productive....Have a great day!

SNOOOOOW DAY!!! I made one for myself. Ray had the whole place snowblown by the time he left at 8. By the time I went outside at 10 to open doors and such you couldn't see the paths he made. Good call on my part, I am thinking. (I made sure they had enough stuff in the coop for them before I shut up last night. ) They were fine when I opened up. Ducks came out, chickens are too chicken to venture out. A couple walked all the way to the door and just stood there. I had to step over them to get out of the place.

Mom is fine. I brought in extra provisions yesterday. (read that as "chocolate") Called her and she was able to do her morning routine herself. (I'm sure the vasoline I put on the connections helped out in that regard) Now she is watching a Netflix movie. I'm pretty sure she is glad she can't go out due to doctor's orders....otherwise she would try and probably get stuck in the driveway.

I got splinters in my fingers moving firewood last night. I wonder why people wear gloves when they do things like that all the time. I think I finally figured it out.

That is right, I blame rancher for my lack of self control, It may not be his fault but I blame him.

Also I always go with "A poor excuse is better than no excuse."

Oh and "It is always easer to ask forgiveness than permission."
