NY chicken lover!!!!

CM has them on sale today. Not Nobles though. Still don't know what the deal is with them. Jeff at CM says they can't get the Nobles. Says there's some kind of problem. Anyone know?
This is what I get from my local feed store.

I'd rather spend a little more knowing it's right there 5 minutes away. CM is too far out of the way for me. Especially when there is really nothing out that way that I ever go to.

Actually I just looked back at what I paid for 2 of those shavings at JJ and it's actually a tad cheaper. I paid $12.20 total for 2, that's $6.10 a piece including tax.

I go into lockdown this morning and am really worried about the air cell being to small. I read every thing I could find and kept the humidity between 40 and 50% the whole time. Next time we try I will keep it much lower. Here are a couple of pics from last night's final candle. All were alive and kicking.

Let me know what you think please.
Your air cells are very small. What happens is the water in the egg doesn't evaporate like it should, and when the chick pips internally it drowns in the excess fluid. The reason we raise the humidity up a lot the last 3 days, is so the shell softens enough for the chick to pip out. I hope your chicks hatch ok, but if they don't, crack open the egg at the large end. If you see fluid move around when you move the egg back & forth, it drowned. You really need to check eggs that don't hatch to figure out what happened so you can correct it.

CM has them for $4.99 on sale. Only thing is I like the Nobles since they're bigger chips and less dust. I agree that there are times when the cost in gas driving to a place makes even a sale more expensive. Which is why I don't drive to Lee's feeds where I can get the shavings in paper rather than plastic, which I prefer.

I have driven to JJ's for DE. If I had an SUV or a truck I'd have gotten much more. Right now I'm wondering how to get cattle panels home. I may have to rent a truck at HD. If I could roll them tight enough I could put them in my van.

If Nobles was up an running I might check to see if they could just drop 10 bales at my house on the way to CM. I might e-mail them again and see what's going on.

Since I've been on BYC, I've seen all kinds of opinions. Some even disagree with the so called "experts". Case being the article in PP magazine, saying to keep it at 35% in the beginning. Then I was told oh no just do a dry hatch. Well I tried it and it turned out worse.

I'm not trying to be contrary but encouraging so as not to make Xovan worry. This is why I say one has to work out their own system and the groove that works for them. Lots of things can affect a hatch. All eggs are not created equal.

I have a friend who has an old 1602N still air and she says she does fine with it. Me? I couldn't get much out of it. I don't know how she does it.

Xovan, be encouraged, I wish you a successful hatch. If you want a copy of the article pm me your e-mail address and I'll send it on.

Thank rancher. I think I know what the outcome is going to be but will wait it out. Going to set up a brooder today just in case. Just sad to think about tham all developing along with no idea of the potential doom to come and I can't help.

Also Aussies have red skin in their neck  area

Where is the red skin?
After a closer look one of them has more yellow color than white. I'm so confused. I only ordered one JG out of curiosity but ended up with two. My free chick was a buff polish roo. But I didn't get a SLW so I think the second JG was a mix up there. But they are smaller than I thought. Unless I have a smaller hen and a Aussie.

Quote: We all start out doing what is most recoommended, and end up tweeking what we do so it works out. I think the term "dry incubating" is misleading. Its not completely water free. Each person has to work out how much humidity works for them. I add water once a week & fill up the reservoir. That works for me and is what I tell people. Its a trial & error process. Each incubator is different. You will eventually get it. Just keep trying.

Alright the decision has made to place an order for ducklings in the next couple of weeks. Feb 14th the earliest to be exact. Myself and two others are going in on an order and before placing it I'm wondering if anyone else here would be interested in going in on our order to help save on shipping/small order costs. If you are interested please PM me. Thanks!!!

Forgot to mention the order will be placed thru eFowl.com

I was looking at their coops. Specifically the one for $89. It might be good for young birds. Anyone ever order such a thing? I would most likely use it in the garage or back room.

I was thinking of getting some Ducks. Can we do this or should I look for eggs?
