NY chicken lover!!!!

Does anyone have a Brinsea 20 incubator? How do you keep the humidity up? I have to refill my water trough every day because of the way the incubator is turned. All the water just spills out of the troughs and drains out the drain holes thanks to the angle of the turn.

Did you get it new ? As it sounds like it is malfunctioning . or is it not set up right ?
Do you have a phone # you can call the manufacturer about it ?

Anyone have BLRW's, I'm looking for a hen or two (or hatching eggs!), my boyfriend has decided he really likes the breed and told me to get a hen or two!!

I have BLRW. I don't have birds for sale right now but I could collect eggs.

You are aware there is a series of books about Louise ? She's quite famous.

This book looks cute. I'm going to look into borrowing it at the library.

Just saw a fox run across the woods in my backyard. GREEEEEAT! He didn't come into the yard tho. AND the ducks and chickens are out today and he didn't stop so hopefully he'll stay away.

I was out looking around for the Hawk again and heard a crow. I saw it in the tree and then watched as it flew up very high and pestered a Hawk out of the area. I know there is a Hawk that hangs southwest of us, but have only seen it once. It landed in the yard but I happen to come around the corner of the house and it took off.

My hope is to have windows put on the back of the house and make a florida room. I'll be able to see the back yard then. With a small stove it will make a nice sitting area in the winter.

Rancher---you might as well put in a bench rest in front of those windows so you can take care of predators when they come by!

Mad busy at work today. Drive thru all day and nobody had their new ins cards or complained about how much prices went up. Good thing I have rhino hide for skin and kevlar underwear cause everyone kept shooting the messenger (that would be me). The nice part of coming home is that all the cheeps get so excited to see me. My silkies run back and forth in their run and bawk , which sets off the terrorists in the back and then Bill starts crowing. A very nice welcome home. Good therapy too!

Well I figure double hung windows and I can drop one down and shoot the buggers. I have a spot light that comes on at night too. To be honest I haven't had many problems with preds. Not since the fox incident. The hawk is new. I expect migrating birds this time of year. I see ducks going over.

I have the two roosters in the back room and they get out now and then. What's funny is I bend down and reach out to them and they come right to me. I pick them up and put them back in the pool. I don't spend much time with them but I do pet them. Too bad they aren't keepers.

I think you customers think if they give you a hard time you'll pass the message along to your bosses. What they don't get is perhaps your bosses don't care?

whatta think about CVS not selling tobacco anymore. Think there is a way they plan to make up the loss some how?

I never got my flu shot this year. I ordered one on line. The UPS guy rang the bell and when I opened the door he stuck me in the arm and said here's the flu shot you ordered.

I really should get one but my doc moved so darn far away, I hate to drive out to get one. 22 miles round trip.

The new docs in his office don't have english/american sounding names so I didn't stay with the practice. It may not be PC but it is what it is. I really need to look into it more.

rhino hide & Kevlar undies. I LOVE IT !! Where can I get me sum ??

Lynzi - go to walmart.. They have thermometer / hygrometers. The brand is accurite, they're digital. It's about 2" x 3" fits in my brinsea, laying on its side. You might get different temp readings between the brinsea thermometer & the accurite one. I go by the brinsea thermometer.

As far as water. I bought a mixed bag of thin, thin sponges, but they were the size of a sheet of paper. I cut them in strips about 1.5" - 2" wide and long enough so that they curl into the bottom of the water well and comeback up to lay on the floor of the bator under the hatching tray. You have to play around with the amount of water in the well with the sponge and how many sponges you need to maintain the humidity you want. Then I take a piece of aquarium airline, cut one end at an angle and slide it thru the air vent on top down thru a hole in the egg tray right into the water channel. When the humidity gets low I use a needless syringe to injet water down the line into the channel. Add small amounts at a time and wait about a half hour to recheck humidity, before adding more water.

Don't give up................. it takes practice and patience to figure out how to get the best hatch rate from our bators. I've had some awesome hatches and some really crappy ones, It will come.

Pyxis............................. this is what I do

If you use the sponges they absorb the water and you don't have to put as much in the troughs. Remember, the more damp surface area you have the higher the humidity
