NY chicken lover!!!!

Quote: Another thought, Chickens can get along without their toes. I inherited a pulllet, that had a zip tie already embedded in her foot. Eventually, the foot fell off, and she is ok walking on the stump. Obviously, she can't roost, but she is ok with it. So, although it seems awful right now, he will probably be ok even if he loses a toes or two, but might not be able to breed, if he can't balance on the hens back.

Lol reminds me of what the ladie at hr block siad. She use to have ducks and they would stand in creek all the time in winter. Well she said they would be walking then their foot would fall off. She said she had some qith no feet some with one foot or part of their feet. I'm guessing the creek wasnt deep.

Since my run is attached and, until the snow broke it, had been fully fenced in I had stopped locking them up.

Do you have it buried in the ground? Aren't you worried about something digging under?

Did you see this little guy near my run. He's gone now, but I hope he's okay. The part that he's near I had to reinforce as the wire rusted out.

I just went out to check on the chickens when I got home from work and noticed that my Egyptian Fayoumi roo has HORRIBLE frost bite on his feet, bleeding and black and gross. I checked everyone over and he's the only one out of 33 chickens with frost bitten feet. I have no idea why it's only him. Any idea's of what I should do? Should I bring him in and bandage his feet and leave him in the house in a crate for awhile?

I'm going to do a search on it as well but maybe someone has experience with this?

I noticed my Marans roo with bloody feet. I thought he's been picked on. Which reminds me I have to go Blue Kote his feet. I've never had that happen before.

You could Blue Kote them and rub some vaseline on his feet. My roos is not nice and has attacked me more than once. He's going asap, but I still don't want him to suffer.

I feel like I should try to go to bed now seeing as how I'm sure I'll be up all night worrying about these little ducklings arriving tomorrow morning. I hope they're OK.

Still cant get over how cold it is out there. First day of Spring is March 20th!!! If we get snow past that day I might just be packing up and moving down south!

The latest I remember it ever snowing was May 8th, in 1977. I was taking cupcakes to my 3 year olds class for her birthday. this is the 1st year ever, that I actually thought that maybe moving to warmer weather would be nice....

I remember getting a big storm in April one year but that was the latest I could remember. You mentioned earlier having blue silkies from these breedings that you will eventually be looking to sell... are they dark blue? Any lighter colored blue ones by any chance?

They look blue, not dark, but are out of silver partridge parents, so probably not pure blue. I was very surprized when I saw their coloring, wondering where the "blue" came from.

If you ever get a chance to get some pics and could send me some that'd be great. I'm looking for something that leans toward the grayish/slate side of blue rather than the dark blue that looks almost black.

I am sure it will snow after March 20. For years I skied in April. Now sometimes we could ski in April, but everyone is ready for spring so my area just closes around St. Patricks day usually. It snowed on my first mothers day, it was kind of sad.
