I can always use more chickies - man I want some of those wheatens and the partridge bantam chickens but I must restrain myself - drat it!

Ok, I have been asked by several people if they can bring things other than
"animal" related items to the Swap on May 7th.

I asked the president of the club, and he said yes. So if you have something besides chickens you would like to sell, bring it on!

So, let everyone know what you have to sell by posting it here and on the Swap thread in the Chickenstock section.

I originally bought 6 golden comet pullets on the 20th...then I turned around & ordered 5 Black & 5 silver laced cochin pullets, 5 Lt , 5 Dk & 5 Buff Brahma pullets that are all supposed to be here on May 18th. I have a lady who is supposed to take 10 of these chicks. Now I'm getting 3 lavendar & 3 split Orpingtons ( straight run) tomorrow & she's going to throw in some mottled ones for free

Thank God I ordered a brand new 14 x 18 barn that is going to be the new chicken coop. I went from having no chickens to having a lot real quick...lol

The chickens will be sharing a 2.5 acre field with my Nigerian dwarf goats & my Great Pyrenees pup. We are fencing it with 5 ft. no climb horse fence & we will run electric on bottom & on top. The coop will have a wood floor with linoleum.

Here is a pic of the fencing going up:

How far up from the bottom are you putting the bottom strand of electric? We're thinking about putting up electic fence, only I am not sure if I need electric AND wire fencing to keep the birds in and the predators out? (Trying to keep the cost down since I will be fencing about a half acre I think? Its huge. Sigh)

I ask because I have that wire fencing on my silkie pen, and a fox came and pried it up the other week and got one of my hens! Its a smart bugger too, it must have searched the perimeter for the weakest part of the fence (the gate) I sure wish I had done my fencing right the first time with buried wire... I put up stuff to deter the Hawks this year at least, I had to use twine to make a visual barrier (I hope that works) because the poultry netting I used on the Ameraucana pen collapsed under snow load! It doesn't do much better with rain either!

I have a few Indian Runner Ducklings available for sale. They're 1-2 weeks old from Holderreads. I think the ones I selected for sale are all Fawn and white, but its so hard for me to tell color on the ducklings! I have around 4-6 available, there may be one or two of another color as well. 8.00 each, I can deliver these on my way to the Columbus OH rabbit show on Friday, I'm leaving from Bloomfield and going there if you are on my way!

Or you can pick up here before Friday, I'm located in Bloomfield (14469)

Here are some pics of some of the ducklings, I'm really impressed with the Quality on them, I had some issues with pricing with them though. I preordered in Dec, sent in my deposit and then they wanted more for them and more for shipping! Looks like they dropped my Cayugas from the order though, boo. I would have rather they sent 6 less Runners! I also wish they had included a color chart or something, since some of them I have not a clue what color they are! Makes picking out what I want to keep for my breeding pen even harder! I really don't want to feed 50 ducklings until I know what colors they are!

Anyone know what color this is? I thought Khaki, someone else thought Chocolate (I have darker ones I thought were choc though) This one has some yellow on its breast, and there are other "khaki" colored ones that don't?

My dog checking out the duckies! I think these are Khaki and Chocolate? I know, it looks Black, it isn't.

I would love to be able to answer this question & be right for you, but I'm new to raising chickens. For my fence we will be running the electric fence about 4-6" above the ground to keep critters from digging under & the same on the inside to keep my Great Pyrenees from digging out to get the preditors. We will also run it on the top for the same reason..preditors climbing over the fence or my dog climbing over to get them. Great Pyrenees will go to any length to get whatever is threatening there livestock. If the preditors seem to still get through the fence then they have to deal with my dog

I run the bottom strand of electric wire just about 4" above the ground on the outside of the fence...to keep vermin out. Also just a few inches above the top wire of the 2"x4" Fencing. Use the extended insulators. When my wire droops and touches the non electrified wire, it is quite shocking!!! I actually prefer my premier one permanet fencing. Easy to move and stood up well with all the snow we had this year. Good luck!!!

Must.... Have...... Self...... Control.............. Maybe it's a good thing I can't go to the swap. Then again, you live close....

Tigrlily: What's the countdown on your peafowl eggs? Looked them up - gosh, very beautiful birds.

Fyrekitten: Hope you are doing well. Are you getting hit with the severe weather? We just missed it. Hope all our friends in Rome and Holland Patent are OK.

Happy Country Hens
