NY chicken lover!!!!

Don't you just love Psycho Chicks!!!!???? I had some of them - thank goodness they calmed down after they got a bit older and of course "mom" bringing them worms has been very very popular. I come outside now and it's a cheep fest for worms at the fence. I haven't let them out to forage yet - I don't think they are controlled enough yet to come back in or pay attention to danger.

NOT chasing them that's for darn sure!

So featherz, how's your gal today - still broody?

Sounds like if I was staying here I need to figure out every address for you all and get some chickens and chickies - all great stock and probably GORGEOUS!

Just sold four of my ducks, one of my LG Incubators and the egg turner. So now I'm only down to three good ones and the home built nice one....Might be selling the Hovabator and some of my older chicks to some other people later today......

I have decided to let my turkeys go.

I have a year old pair of Narragansetts, $100
1 Narragansette poult, about 3 months old-$20

A pair of Red Bourbons year old-$100
A year old Broad Breasted Bronze hen that is laying fertile eggs $50

I purchased the pairs last fall thinking I would breed, but now I need the room for more chickens...so they must go.

If anyone is interested let me know.

Sure thing. Did you get my connections about the Dorking from NH? I do like the Scots but can't just now. Though they do sell out fast. What do you think of the Swedish Flower hens from Green fire? I would def need another coop for those.

And perhaps give up something else. Perhaps orps. But orps lay well and decent sized eggs.

Got the connection from Trish. Joseph isn't selling chicks this year. I have Silver Grey, White & Colored Dorking eggs in the incubator right now.

The SG's are from 2 different sources. The White & Colored are from a breeder in Illinois.

Not nuts about the Swedish Flower hens. Don't know why... they just don't do it for me. I am giving up my Lav, Split & Wheaten Ameraucanas... gonna give the project chicks a whirl & see if they come through after they start laying. If not, they can go too. I need to make room for the new Dorkings & John really likes the Dominiques, so they'll stay till we see how they grow out. They were flighty as chicks & I'm not a fan of nutzy birds.

Speaking of which... The chicks we have in the big kid brooder in the garage are making me crazy!

They flip out everytime I walk by or open the brooder! I think I'm just going to have a big chick sale to move some out!!!!!

well I have two hatchery Doms and they are the noisiest I have in hens. They are bossy and get in the coop early and squawk for the others to come to bed too. The largest Cookie to you , has gone broody in the past so I keep her in hopes she'll go again. If I were breeding them I would include her cuz I think broodieness is important. They are however excitable, unlike my Dels who get used to me quickly and don't shy away. Which can be a bad thing if your using a power tool, cuz if I'm using it they can get under foot. I love them of course.

Hi. Everyone...sounds like things are very busy!...Nice to hear about everyone's chicks....

Do you have an incubator now? If not then do youself a favor and order a Genesis 1588 from Incubator Warehouse. You'll save yourself some trouble trying to set things and all that stuff. Got mine turned it on and went from there. Have had very little trouble.

I will say this too. PUT YOUR INCUBATOR IN A ROOM WITH EVEN TEMP OF 70-80. NOT A ROOM WHERE FOLKS GO BY IT AND IN AND OUT A LOT. Do not go by the thermostat on the wall it's not accurate IMO. I keep a thermometer on the wall all the time. Right now my office is over 80 with the window cracked and a brooder light on. I would close the window if I had my incu running because you can't always see a draft. Iv'e also learned to shoot for a temp of 100.0 - 101.00 not 99.5

Sorry, I wish you the best hatches ever

Yay on possibly selling the house. Keep us posted on the surgery news.

Hope you have good pain meds. No big deal on the chicks and ducks. They will just have to find another great home.

I think I still have a broody, although this heat is just too much! My birds are all used to ccccccold weather and now it's 80+. My poor broody (if that's what she is) is still flattened under the nestboxes so I managed to squeeze water in there for her. I also stuck some fake eggs under her to see if she'll stick with it.

I threw caution to the winds today and let all my coops free range while I was at work except the layers in the front, since they tend to run into the street if not watched. It's just too hot and they can run into my forest for better shade.

I'm so glad I found this thread! Seems like everyone is from the west coast, it would be nice to meet some people near me to trade stories or chickens with!
