I would save the money you'd spend on the hovabator, save some more & buy a used Sportsman or Dickey. I went from being the "worlds worst hatcher" to hatching almost too well! I swear I could hatch rocks in that thing! I sold one of my styrobators, a turner & dozens of eggs to pay for it, but it's paying me back with live chicks!
No, I'm pretty sure I am the Worlds Worst Hatcher! Do I win something for being a chicken killer?
I felt guilty last year about how many I killed! I bought a Genesis and have done no better, see, I clearly cannot recall to put water in it or take the eggs out of the turner (or turn the turner on, or turn the eggs if I'm doing something w/o a turner!)
You're singin my song! I did all that & more! Suffocated them, drowned them, toasted them, you name it! It was so depressing that I didn't even want to set eggs.
The Sportsman 1502 is basically idiot-proof! It turns them, the humidity stays stable as long as you put in water
and the right number of pads. The temp is nice & even -- I put in 3 thermometer/hygrometers in 3 parts of the bator & they all read nearly identical. It's such a relief -- hatching was stressful before I had it.
