Thank you so much! I found people from Syracuse area, and people from even farther north than I am (Malone, Massena), but still no one in the middle where I am
smile.png
But, it's already been helpful, I see Fyrekitten has a blue Jersey Giant for sale, and I have wanted one so bad! Getting ready to PM her now!

Did you notice there is a Swap Meet May 7th at the Coop extension in Oriskany. The address is 121 Second St. Oriskany 13476.

There will be many people selling poultry related things, besides some with crafts.

Do you have an incubator now? If not then do youself a favor and order a Genesis 1588 from Incubator Warehouse. You'll save yourself some trouble trying to set things and all that stuff. Got mine turned it on and went from there. Have had very little trouble.

I will say this too. PUT YOUR INCUBATOR IN A ROOM WITH EVEN TEMP OF 70-80. NOT A ROOM WHERE FOLKS GO BY IT AND IN AND OUT A LOT. Do not go by the thermostat on the wall it's not accurate IMO. I keep a thermometer on the wall all the time. Right now my office is over 80 with the window cracked and a brooder light on. I would close the window if I had my incu running because you can't always see a draft. Iv'e also learned to shoot for a temp of 100.0 - 101.00 not 99.5

Sorry, I wish you the best hatches ever

Rancher

I do have a Genesis 1588 and a top hatch...looking for one to use as a hatcher...thanks for the insite!

I would save the money you'd spend on the hovabator, save some more & buy a used Sportsman or Dickey. I went from being the "worlds worst hatcher" to hatching almost too well! I swear I could hatch rocks in that thing! I sold one of my styrobators, a turner & dozens of eggs to pay for it, but it's paying me back with live chicks!

Sounds great! Do you know the times? I probably wouldn't be able to get there until 3:00 that day

I'm sure it will probably be winding down by then.

Too well? You hatch silkies for gosh sakes. Those things probably hatch sitting in the sunshine. They're aliens I tell ya! Evil stinking aliens! Try hatching some REAL chickens and then see what happens?
lau.gif
Silkies don't even lay edible eggs and ya can't eat a silkie either. Do you know what you call a silky on the end of a stick? A swiffer duster

So sad you are leaving before we got a chance to meet in person. Very, Very happy that you sold your place and can move south.

Hope your shoulder feels better soon.

Tgrlilly: Sorry to hear you have to sell the ameraucanas. It is sometimes tough to have to make those choices. Hope the barred project goes well tho. The chicks I got from you are looking so pretty. They look like little falcons. Have to post pics soon.

Marquisella: You are too funny.

(Sorry you have to sell your turkeys tho, I hear they are lots of fun to have around.)

And 2 silkies make a swiffle 360!
big_smile.png
They're great for getting the dust off the ceiling fan!

I know they're evil --- I still have a bruise the size of a silver dollar from Oscar the Grouch.

Speaking of Silkies --- I looked at the TSC silkies today. So hard to tell when they're babies... a few looked ok, some didn't have any feathers on their feet. Hard to evaluate without seeing parent stock so you can see the possible potential. Anyhow....... back to haching.........

Hey ---- I hatch big manly Orps, too!!!! And Ameraucanas & our precious Dorkings!!!! So there!!

Hopefully the Peafowl eggs are happy in there as well.

Thanks!! I'm really alright with it! We're actually moving towards Dorking preservation as our main focus and that feels really good.

The White Ameraucanas are so stunning that I have to keep them & I love the blue eggs. I really do love the evil little tribbles we call Silkies too
wink.png
and they barely take up any room compared to the rest of the flocks. I sold one of the wheaten girls saturday to a girl who has some of my stock.

I do want to see more pics as yours grow up! I got a really cool looking one 2 hatches ago -- it's almost peach! I don't know how that happened! I also have a Lavender Wheaten Ameraucana project going on here. My F1s are not all the same as Chicken Stalkers, so I'm not sure what they'll produce. Some of my pullets appear pure black. Can't wait till they start laying!

Actually Rancher is Asian Countries Silkies are prized for their black legs something about the skin and are supposed to have a richer meat (?) and special healing powers for the weak - no not weak of mind..... I can't remember the whole dealio I'd have to look it up and no I haven't been smoking Silkie feathers either

Storming pretty good here right now so I have a panting 9 yr old hiding under my keyboard and desk
hide.gif
caf.gif
. Pet, pet - thunder...more quick pets. heavy panting. I think I have some doggie downers I need to pull out for the old gal.

BTW, you should have seen my BJG today - picking on the smaller dellies and such - too funny. He gave my bantam roo stink eye and so did one of my bigger dellies. One of the Dellie pullets was making stinkeye and trying to pick a fight with one of the older hens on the other side of the fence - I couldn't believe it - might have to do with the fact that the little gal got out yesterday while my back was turned and the other one had her by the neck. Definitely not letting those gals out together
hide.gif
.

Better get off now, the lightening is really starting to pick up and get fierce here - I think a worse storm is coming our way. I just wish my dang coops would dry out - they are soooooooo nasty now that I can really smell the ground and it's squishy. Y U C K !!!!

No contract yet on the house so don't count the chickens before they are hatched yet....should have it tomorrow - scared the realtor and told him I am out of town from Friday night until the following Friday - that should do it.

Man, that is some violent lightening, okay - getting off!

No, I'm pretty sure I am the Worlds Worst Hatcher! Do I win something for being a chicken killer?
ep.gif
I felt guilty last year about how many I killed! I bought a Genesis and have done no better, see, I clearly cannot recall to put water in it or take the eggs out of the turner (or turn the turner on, or turn the eggs if I'm doing something w/o a turner!)
