NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi everyone! I just learned this thread was here, after spending a lot of time here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...t-of-here-a-diary-of-a-crazy-chicken-man/6180

We are located in the Finger Lakes region of NY.

I am looking for some local hatching eggs and have had no luck on Craigslist Rochester, Syracuse, or Elmira/Corning. I am looking for Black Australorp, Orpington (any color is fine), and Speckled Sussex.

I will be setting the 2nd week of April, probably April 8th or so. If I can't find local, I've got a pending order with Meyer Hatchery, and they are schedule to arrive April 5-7th.

I am looking for no more than 5 or 6 of each breed.

Hope everyone is well! And I don't know about you guys, but I am sure looking forward to spring...it's been a nasty winter, for sure!

I have Coronation Sussex and Lavendar Orpingtons.

We are moving and I have 19 chicken I need to move. The house we are moving into does not have anything to move them into. We are moving right now. I need a easy temp plan for them and I can't think of anything. Thought maybe someone would have ideas. I'm also thinking about culling half my flock. But I also have baby's coming and in the bator. The move happened all of a sudden my neighbor offered to buy our house and at the same time my FIL asked us to buy his house and build him an in law apartment. So we are doing it. We have been staying in the new house and traveling everyday to care for our flock. I would use a dog house but feel like my chickens are going to hate it and I have to many. Thinking about just buying a shed and turning it into a coop or maybe buying a coop that's to small for now. I also have baby ducks coming. Any suggestions?

Yes a half hoop. If they can range during the day a half hoop will work as a temp. coop. Set it as close to the house as you can.

Welcome Sweetpea.

I just spoke to my friend who took my extra roo when he needed to leave, and two hens. She has enjoyed the hens and they have started laying again. But she misses Reveille as he chose to cross the road at a bad time, so she like the rest of us wants chicks. She particularly wants americauna chicks, and is hoping for one roo. She wants blue eggs...

I know lots of you are hatching eggs, anyone doing americaunas? She is a good chicken mom, and a nurse, so fairly unflappable!

I do not have pure Americaunas, no. I have a BR roo over Easter Egger hens, though.

As soon as I can get some hens I will be. Though they will be mixed colors. I don't show so any color works for me.

Thanks for the ideas ... I didn't even think about Craig's list. and I'm going to talk to DH to see if he would be interested in building some of the ideas you guys had. thank you!! I was having a hard time envisioning something. :)
