NY chicken lover!!!!

Cuties all of them .
Thanks for sharing your chick Eye Candy
The big Brabanter is the boss- Probably a ROO

Cats like chicks ...can kill them .
If your cats are like mine ...they will not be interested any more ..once they figure out what they grow up into ! ..He avoids even the chicks now .

I hoping that big one is a roo! I thought he looked like it too

I pulled him out of a big group of pullets, all they had was pullets! but them man said they do end up with roo's I want to go back and get a mottled java roo if I don't have one already.

I'm keeping good eye on the cats.. when I'm not home the door to the room is shut so I don't have surprises. .

DONT WORM BABIES
- I also have never wormed my flock .
So far havent had a problem with worms ..they free range 1/2 of the day .

The downside :
is worms can kill them ...but you usually have some sign of them in their poop BEFORE THAT .
And like Cass mentioned they would be off laying also .

I regularly add raw onions to their bread / vegetable/ leftovers treat .
Occasionally I give them Pumpkin or squash seeds ..once in a great while I give them Garlic / Cayenne Pepper..when I remember to.
So, are the worms REALLY obvious in their poop? Or is it something you really kind of have to be looking for to catch?

If there is enough interest, I could hatch out some chicks from the same parents that my previous post pics came from and bring them to the picnic. I would need a definate yes and how many you want along with your name. Pm me if you are interested.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not as common a problem as some think. Lord have mercy as wet as it is here I've never seen a worm in their poop.
Neither have I, in my own flock. I once was at a very disgusting set up and saw something wiggling in the piles of poo. I decided I didn't want to buy the "colors" they had. LOL Really, I just didn't want ANY chicken from that farm. Or cow. Or Goat, either. My place isn't picture perfect, but I DO clean it out and add fresh shavings as needed. I don't think this "farmer" ever added anything but new birds to replace those that died, to his coop. (Maybe he took the dead ones out, but you couldn't tell for sure due to the smell)
