Gonna get some of those hand heat packs to keep in case of emergency too. It will be better than nuthin for the babies.

OMG, I never thought of those. But do you know if there is a thing you can plug in that goes off if the power goes out? Kinda like an alarm type thing ?

Oh I saw one on ebay! must have. That would be wonderful for middle of the night power outages. I just spent all my money on chicks and my paypal ebay money is tied up since they hold it when you are new for a short time until packages are delivered and whatnot. That doohickey alarm is on my list to get.

I have 25 Russian Orloff chicks being shipped Monday..

OMG we have one of those too, never would have thought to use it for the incubator if we lost power. Thanks! Lol DH kept saying last night, "we're gonna end up losing power". I told him to bite his tongue, I have eggs waiting hatch!! We didn't end up losing power but at least now I know I don't have to worry!

Sorry to hear you're all getting so much snow. We got some ice last night and then maybe 4 inches of snow on top of that. I decided to "work from home" today rather than bother trying to drive to work.

With all these chick pictures and people hatching I really want to break out the incubator. The problem is I could only hatch pure buff orp chicks and the rest would be mutts. The other problem is that I don't really want chicks, I would want to sell them all once they hatch. How easy do you think it would be to sell mutt chicks on craigslist?

Stay safe everyone!

I bought two BO from Fayette, nut they turned out to be some kind of sex link and one of them has spurs. I contacted the place a couple of times, but they gave me the run around, trying to pull the wool over my eyes, never admitting even that they made a mistake...I'm still pretty mad at them. They do not vaccinate the chicks, if that matters to you. If I were to buy from a place, I would try Natureberry Farm. I hear great things about that place.

Thanks for the heads up. I definitely want the chicks vaccinated. I will look at Natureberry, thanks

wow I went to go look since you reminded me, check it out how many different ones there are now! I only saw one before.

Not sure what I'd do if the power went out but at least I could do something. Incubator would be tough. I wish I hadn't given the old incubator back to my SIL's father cuz he trashed it. It ran on some kind of oil heat.

I couldn't find parts and no one on CL wanted it. It would have been good for someone living off the grid.

He does have some old type brooders though. I need to get them back. If I can.

I could tell you stories that would curl your hair of those two nuts from personal experience. JMO stay away from Fayette.

I'm really happy with Natureberry. Their stock is vaccinated for Mareks. The 6 chicks I got a week ago are thriving. Everything there was organized and set up nice, clean. Really a nice couple. They use and sell the feed from Pine Creek Mill. The feed mill is near there, Pine Creek Feed. They have fishmeal you can add to your mix and will make you custom mixes. I like the fact that they will bag and sell non GMO feeds. I am very anti Monsanto.

Thanks everyone for the advice regarding Fayette. I have an inquiry in with Natureberry.

Oh so cool! I have been eyeing them for a while! I love the fluffy cheeks, probably why I like my EE's and Faverolles, LOL.
Let me know how you like them! I heard they weren't great layers but you can't believe everything you read on the internet.

You won't be disappointed if you go there. They stand behind what they sell and do a wonderful job taking care of their birds. Jim and Sandy are hard workers.
My only exposure with the place in Fayette was on here, they were very defensive and condescending. I would steer clear just based on what I have heard from a few others who have done business with them.

On another note, I gave a friend a dozen eggs to hatch and all of them were duds. I wonder if I didn't collect them soon enough and they froze or if fertility was low. Oh well, probably for the best since the daddy is a little bugger.
