NY chicken lover!!!!

Most on our NY thread seem to be to the east or north of me. Is Fayette near you? It took me well over an hour to get there. I have been looking for buffs for nearly 2 yr but don't find them near me. I have 1 hen so even if I could find a roo, I'd be happy. The people at the very end of my road have very washed out buffs for eating. Their flock keeps getting smaller and smaller. They do the same with ducks.
Nature Berry in Macedon has some buffs in right now. My one came from them, she's been perfect other than having spurs! lol
They keep up on their website so you can see what they have before you go. They are well worth the drive!

I keep suggesting Patricia Forman book "City Chicks". Lots of helpful information.

Ex. Did you know a dogs bark is higher in decibels than a roosters crow. ?
Yes! I can hear my Neighbors dog all day, every day, and they are .25 miles down the road with plenty of trees in between to muffle the noise.

Glad everyone seems to be having good hatches!

I got this double yolker this weekend from my EE. For size comparison, the brown one is a typical jumbo egg from my barnies...Poor girl!

Just candled 5 developing white Sebastapol goslings....only 24 more days to go!

So tired of the cold...this is abnormal! I hope it isn't an indication of how the summer will be...

I do feel like this emoticon today...sigh

Jenny, Glad you are enjoying the Silkies. They are MORE than chickens to us. Can't wait to get the eggs. My husband had two knees replaced. He was on the National Ski Patrol and did a lot of "FAST" skiing.

We are now going to Physical Therapy and he is unable to drive. We have a Doctor's appointment on Thursday and he MAY get his driving permission. SO looking forward to
meeting Jeff and start our first hatch.

We don't even know how to see if the eggs are fertile. Lots of learning to do. We have a tiny
Briena sp? Should be an adventure. ENJOY. Remember to post photos as your Silkies grow.
There are some Silkie lovers on this thread. Regards, Aria

So I took another look at my eggs today because when I candled yesterday I couldn't understand why some from the older dates were developing but the ones from the newer dates weren't?!? I have three that are growing, the rest are clear. So tell me if this makes sense:

I have eggs from my Lavender from the 17th, and 19th that are clear
Eggs from my Splash from 3/17 and 3/20 that are also clear

however I have L eggs from 3/16 & 3/14 that are growing
and an S egg from 3/19 that is growing.

Why would some develop and some not. I can see if the older dates weren't developing then I would assume those eggs weren't fertile yet. But to have from the 19th develop and one from the 20th not develop? That's just weird to me.

Does the weather man not know I have things to do? It will take me days to do what needs doing before I leave. It may be spring but apparently Mother Nature doesn't know it.

I'M SICK OF IT, DO YOU HEAR ME? SICK, SICK , SICK!

Maybe coz they are older they are farther along ...maybe in a couple of days the others will develop too ?

Well went out to feed the chickens. They decided to eat out of the bucket as I opened small coop. (I open big coop before small to let them free range before feeding and showing them the younger chickens)So I picked up my GCM and checked her out she seems fine except that it looks like she is bound or is ready to lay. If she don't lay today I'm brining her in tomorrow morning and giving her a nice steam bath. Well as I set down the GCM my roo decided to run up on me. Stupid bird went back a few feet and laid down as I punched him as soon as he ran up on me. Must be spring time cause he's getting up tight with everyone around here lately. I almost laughed at his dumb butt because he looked around from laying on the ground like *** just happened. Normally I try to kick him he wasn't expecting a jab to his shoulder. I thought he was done with his little jerk phase since I haven't had him run up on me in awhile but I think love is in the air.

Stony Recommended : Catch the Roo ...Hang it upside down by its feet & walk around with it for a while .
It worked on my roo so far .
