NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning All,
Not raining yet...thinking of heading outside to switch to the bantams over to the middle pen. At least if I do that I'll feel better about leaving them out in the run while I leave the house throughout the day. Was suppose to take the kids to a rabbit show in Fulton today, but I just heard from a friend who is showing there and she said all the rabbits are in carriers with their breeders. I thought they'd be set up something like the poultry shows are so we could at least walk around and see them all. I don't see it being much fun for my kids if they have to go looking for rabbits sitting in carriers on the floor.

Better get moving on those bantams before the rain comes (hopefully it doesn't so my yard can dry out a little)

that reminds me I have a bag of crocus bulbs I didn't get in the ground.  I've got to pot them up and see if any survived being in the garage and all.  That's what happens when I buy them late in the season.  It was just to cold to plant them.  On the warmer days I forgot.  I did plant some Narcissus though.

Not so soon I hope.  I'm leaving town.  I've decided just to plant "berries" and fruit plants everywhere and hope they take.  I'm sure what I don't pick the birds will love.

I heard the  Woody Wood Pecker out there this am.  I get chewed out by a Robin that flies back and forth near my garden too. :D

Last year I scared a ground bird off her nest and cause her to lose her eggs. I felt bad but there was nothing I could do after I whacked all the weeds hiding her nest poor thing.

Perhaps you can take a wlk and clear any areas foxes might build a den.  I've plans to build some half scare crows, like I saw in a magazine. I've seen them made with boot feet. I hope to put them in the woods and then use them as "marking" spots. ;)

Not to be so dense but how are these standing up by themselves? Very clever.

I always got catalogs from Millers and hadn't this year but I did get 2 from Stark. I hope they live up to the name.

I reckon there is something inside the pants. I intend to use some of those metal stakes they sell and then stuff them with whatever I have. Hay/straw/ chicken cleanings. Then stick a pot inside the top. The ones in the picture are probably down south somewhere. There are other pics on Pinterest. I hope to do a lot of recycling this year.

I've started Foxglove and Zinnias so far.

I ordered from Stark Brothers last year (apples and peaches) and though they are sending me new peaches this year I have no complaints about what they sent last year. My apple trees all did great but my peaches were so so and they do have a guarantee so I took advantage of it. I still have no clue if the peaches lived thru the winter or not but they weren't looking good last fall when I called them up to get my replacements.

Someone on
Facebook is looking for a Marans cuckoo or Birchens rooster. Anyone?

Well I've got some. I just took back two chicks that someone I donated eggs to says are boys. She claims she's good at feather sexing and these are boys. Just hatched and I hadn't really wanted to take them before my trip, but she works in a Nursing home and couldn't keep them til I get back. They're to/too/two? little to put in with earlier hatched chicks and it's means a brooder for just those two.

Don't have a facebook page so can't go there. If they take them before I leave on Wednesday they can have them. If I have to keep them til after I get back I'm going to hang on to them and see how they turn out. Won't be home Tuesday so it's either tomorrow or Monday.

Will be keeping all Marans chicks/chickens after this. Even mister Nasty won't be going. He'll be culled. Hope he tastes good.

I have 14 back issues of Back Yard chicken, Grit and Hobby Farms chicken magazines for free. If any one wants them. If you live away and want to pay the priority postage I will send them to/too/two you. The info is still good. $70 newstand price. for shipping. medium flat rate $12.35 I think.
