NY chicken lover!!!!

Just saw this in your signature, renee "Vice President ~ Dorking Breeders Club," Congrats!!

I am really looking forward to getting our chickies out of my house! OMG, the dust. As a rule, dust is completely invisible to me. This is not

And yes, I totally expected it to be this bad, but I am so ready to move 'em out.

Who's going to the swap tomorrow? I wish it was a bit closer for me to go, mostly because I'd love to meet you all.

Congrats Renee!

Good luck Ginny...I haven't experienced that!

The chicks are doing great! Growing like crazy. The frizzle is really good, he is getting along fine. Definitely our pet bird. Everyone else is outgrowing the little guy. The dust? yeah lots, for me to even notice it it has to be very very bad

Thanks, Ladies!!!! I'm pretty stoked -- just found out last night!

Yeah -- DUST. They get 1 week in the house, then move out to the garage. The "brooder compound" is out there. But even in one week, they generate an outrageous amount of dust.

I thought I knew dust (I have cockatiels in my house) but the chickens win hands down. Wow. I couldn't wait to move my chickies out to the coop once the weather warmed up. I also have dust blindness, but not this time! Even out in the coop its dusty. And these animals feel the need to take "dust baths"? Seriously...

BTW, does the dust problem go away once they've completely feathered out?

Nope! I have had teen chickens in my barn before and they make lotsa dust too. My hubby hates it - he had planned to use the barn for a music studio (!) and I took it over and turned it into a dusty mess.

Luckily I don't have to answer to anyone but myself, so I pretty much do as I please. This time I seriously questioned myself! What was I thinking???????? Good thing they get under your skin. I would do it again; dust or no dust.

Swap meet tomorrow!
ep.gif

Reminding everyone of the Swap Meet this saturday at the Cornell Cooperative Extesion Oneida County, 121 Second St., Oriskany 13476. All poultry, rabbits
bun.gif
& small animals. No cats or dogs.

Second St. is off of Judd Rd. The Building is on the corner of Judd Rd. & Second St. There is a large sign on the corner that says" Oneida County Farm & Home Center". That is it. It might not say Cornell Coop Extension.

The fee for selling is $10 per spot, free for buyers. Set up is 8 to 9am, sales until 4pm.

First come basis for sales area. I will be there at 8am to direct sellers to areas. It is a large blacktop parking lot so there will be plenty of room to set up, but sales areas are to be kept at 10 x 10 feet areas.
No animals allowed on the grass. Vendors must clean up any debris in their space before leaving:clap

Lets make this a successful Swap so that the club will want to put it on each year. This area is sorely lacking in this type of activity.

All small animals are welcome, and animal related products. There will also be some crafters.

Rain or shine, there are restrooms and water is available. No food this year, but if its successful, we will have food next year.

If you have questions, please pm me or email me privately.

Someone is bringing Royal Palm Poults...

I think, pretty sure, I will have well started black Copper Marans pairs. Plus BC Hens that I am only letting go because I hatched out a LOT of chicks this winter and need the room. I don't hatch during the summer, so they will just be sitting around. Good opportunity for someone to start off with very nice birds & get eggs to increase their flock.

I'll also bring a couple of turkey poults. And a few Wheaten Ameraucana chicks. Some nest boxes, waterers, etc.

Almost forgot, probably some Marans eggs.

The cats try to pull rank once in awhile, but until they start bringing in a living wage, they need to do as they are told

(I believe they are drafting a letter to their congressman as we speak!) LOL!
