Are you going to the Bath auction next week? I could use a dozen Ameraucanas...

I hadn't planned on it. You're in Western NY? We're driving to Buffalo friday morning. Would that help?

I'm in Bloomfield, are you taking Rt 90 to Buffalo? You might drive right by me depending on what way you go. I'm kinda map challenged though!

Shoot me an email and lemme know how many you have and how much you want? I'd take the Orps too but I need less stuff, not more, LOL

I may have actually hatched out a Lav finally! Its been so long since I saw a Lav chick that I'm not sure if its Lav, Blue or Splash, LOL

Need any ducklings?

Have to agree. I was going to move these BR's chicks out but I'm afraid to. As you can see I've lost another chick and I have no idea why except that the genetics is off. They just don't thrive. Legs get skinny as tooth picks. I hope I don't lose anymore. Trylins are from the same line but they seem to be ok.

Such is life.

Hmmmm... Do you use vitamins in the water? Mine get vitamin water till they move outside. I buy the 8oz Durvet Vitamin & Electrolyte powder from TSC - about 1/4tsp in a quart. By the time they're on gallon waterers I only use 1/2 tsp per gallon. I don't use medicated feed. Go ahead -- call me a new-age hippie freak! I know you want to!!

It's ok, it's probably true.

At any rate, I've had a few Dorkings from shipped eggs hatch out with curled toes the last 2 hatches. I added a dropperful of B Complex liquid vitamins to the waterer & put a few drops on the beak once or twice a day. The chick's toes from the previous hatch fixed themselves with no bandaid orthopedic shoe & I was unable to tell her from her sisters by the third day. I just treated the new chick this morning, so I'll know if it works in a few days. Had a weak silkie this morning too, and it got the same vitamin treatment. I can't tell which chick it was now. Honestly, I half expected it to be dead when I got home from work.

Renee....is that something (the curled toes) that can be helped by what is fed to the parent stock? I've got that slw trio and one chick that has hatched (the only..so far
smile.png
) has the curled toes. Just the outside ones are a bit curled, the chick is now two weeks old-is it too late to try the b-complex drops? Also, if I put the parents on breeder pellets...would that work? Or add some manna pro to their diet? Just trying to keep these guys as well fed and healthy as possible! Thanks...and congratulations ms. VP!!

Yep -- taking the thruway. Already warned hubby that we may have chicks in the car with us! I should post on Buffalo & Rochester CL to see if I get any hits!

Ducklings?????

I just candled -- the call duck eggs that snuck into my bator? Well, 13 are still going strong! I thought calls were a nightmare to incubate?!

I'm gonna be in trouble when they hatch! Unfortunately, only one peafowl egg is developing.

Trish -- according to what I've read, yes - the parents diet being deficient of certain B vitamins can cause it. I'm going to start supplementing my own Dorkings & see if my hatchrate improves.

Tomorrow, I'll bring a label from the feed I use & compare it to Manna Pro's nutritional content. I've looked at it, but honestly the only thing I can tell you for sure is that the Agway gamebird feed has higher protein. At 2 weeks, I would still give it the vitamins a shot & probably try an orthopedic shoe or pipe cleaner brace on the affected toes.

Thanks!!!

Codymax -- the guy sounded really nice! He's most interested in the mixed color Ameraucanas.

Cool, I can shoot over to the Canandaigua exit to meet you so you don't have to drive out of your way, I'm like 15 minutes from there.

I had someone email me about ducklings today, so hopefully I can sell enough to pay for this weeks feed! I dunno what I was thinking when I ordered this many ducklings?
th.gif

I guess I was thinking about how many you need to get a decent breeding pen, but I forgot about the feeding part in between! I also figured I would kill some of them but nope,
they're hardy little things!

I could use some Call ducklings.
love.gif
Actually I could use an adult pair to replace the ones the Hawk got this winter. I'll probably check at the Bath auction, but I am sure I am not gonna
pay what I did last fall! LOL I would have bought more if I had known so many accidents would befall them.
hide.gif

Anyone got some tips on getting Silkies to lay? I have TWO that made it thru the winter (Sigh) and neither has laid an egg yet. Which would be fine if they were broody, but they're not.
My husband asked why I had chickens that were such easy pickings, needed to be inside for the winter and then won't lay? I really didn't have a good answer to that!

Stopping in Canadaigua sounds great! Email or PM me so we can set up details & exchange phone numbers.

BTW -- I do have silkies available too!
