NY chicken lover!!!!

Today's hatch count is 1 brown leghorn, 4 wellies, 1 EE and 1 BR. Everyone looks like their Mama's so far. Had to help 2 more that were sticky. Humidity and temps have been a nightmare today, spiking high and low temps and can't keep humidity up. I seen 1 more pip. Hope for some more hatching tomorrow if I didn't manage to kill them all today.

We havent had any rats out in the country where we are yet ..But when we lived in the village in a Apt ...we heard our kitty catch something in the hall closet at night ..
In the morning we found out it was a rat ..We lived a little way up from a feed mill figured it came from there . our kitty is a inside / outside kitty so is a active hunter .
So glad Hubby woke me up at 2am. He checked the bator and was worried about temp and eggs not progressing. Now at 3:45 I still can't sleep. Of course he passed right out.

He could sleep coz he knew it was in your capable hands ..hope you sleep tonight !

As for poor Buckwheat it may be internal laying and sites I've looked at mentioned 4-5 year olds and that would be her. There is nothing I can do except put her down and I can't do it. At least not to her. She will die eventually. All the problems it could be are fatal.
She could have a broken egg inside or be bleeding internally . it is a hard one to do ...I had a Roo that wasnt breathing well I couldnt do it either .
I felt bad he was dead the next day .

I've noticed lots of Robins this year. I like lots of birds. There are never enough birds to eat all the mosquitoes. I don't see many bats. I wish I had a barn just for them.

I do miss the Rabbits. Makes me so sad.

I like rabbits - but I don't miss them in my yard! They play havoc with some of my veggies - little beasties...the Beagles were in full flight after a big fat bunny yesterday - they chase but seldom catch. I look upon the rabbits as 'Beagle fitness trainers'

You have much worry and sadness in your life currently - I hope all things work out to the best for ya Rancher

they tore down a feed mill in Locke, which is a small town i drive through on the way to work. all the rats and raccoons that were living inside must have been killed. it still reeks when you go thru locke.i'll bet its been 2 months!

That's probably all the spilled grain and water rotting too. My dad and brother got some of the bins/augurs out of there, think there was a pit underneath.
And in Murphy's Law of chickens and incubators, I have a hen going broody. Had to pull her out of the metal nest boxes in the barn the past 3 nights to go in the coop and has a naked belly. Wish she would set in the coop nest, at least that is safe and closed up at night. Probably too soon to give her chicks from the incubator. It is Tab and Travis' Maran.

Lucy & her 3 little fuzzy butts this morning. There are 4 chicks that were hatched yesterday so the 4th may be in there somewhere :)

I'm going to miss them while I am on vacation but thankful they hatched before we left. What a beautiful thing to see. And Sophie & Lucy are great co broodies & I am sure will be co parenting as well. Thankfully my friend who is hen sitting for me promised daily pics of the chicks :)

Morning all! Beautiful sunny day today and I am hoping for more drying action. Silkies are out freeranging, terrorists are laying eggs. Hoping today is a better egg day. My plants are happy that there is sun. I wished legolas and Little Man a happy fathers day but they didnt seem too thrilled. Happy Fathers Day to all the men out there on the forum! Whether its humans or animals, you do a lot for both.

Armor--congrats on the hatch! Lucy looks very proud of her babies.

Boskelli--Beagle fitness training!

I love it! Now if it were chocolate bars running I would chase them!

Of course, I would probably last about 50 feet before I keeled over and died, but for chocolate I would do it!

Rancher--a prayer to you and yours.

Lynzi--I know how you feel. Downsizing and changing things myself and it isnt easy making these decisions. Only have so much room.

Enjoy the day everyone. I plan on some serious chicken therapy today.
