If you can't meet their demands, can you/do you have a chicken owning friend that might be able to pitch in for you? I don't know how many birds you have, but I do know that 10 dz eggs (min) is 120 eggs a week. That's a whole LOT of eggs for a back yard flock.

I've been downszing and could easily sell that many. I might have made a mistake in doing so. I hadn't heard from the woman and was panicking. I gave away 5 doz. since I don't like eggs to sit that long.

How long do I have to keep chicks with a broody hen? Cuz it will take a while for them to kick back in and right now the sooner the better.

No, no Pharm, this is the Splash I got from Danielle. I'm hoping it's just a new layer type of thing. I just came across a thread on here with pictures someone posted of eggs that looked just like mine and read this response:



I may try drizzling some veg oil in their food and see if that helps. We'll see how the rest of the week goes and if it clears up.

Olive oil might be good too. I'd forgotten the oil thing. I've read to give Cod liver oil but it's not easy to find in the liquid form. I did find a Vitamin/GNC place that had it but they don't carry it anymore.

Went out a little bit ago to lock up the girls, they were already in their coop.. I opened up the big door to do a head count and Wanda.. Was sitting ever so gently on one my red link's, lol.. poor Penny was looking at me like what the hell is this crazy bird doing..i gently moved her off from penny and told Wanda that we don't sit on our friends.. lol.. I don't think she was doing it to be mean or anything, I again think again she was a momma.. And she just really likes caring for her "babies".

Rancher and Lynzi--you can have the pharmacy at target order you castor oil. Its cheap and I order it and use it for my birds during the winter. Guess I will be doing it when I see this issue pop up again as well. I can tell you that when I cooked eggs in castor oil, it does stink out your kitchen something fierce! I now just pour it on whatever I am going to give my birds as a treat. Less stinky.

Lynzi---thats not Blossom is it?  I do have one terrorist who goes through bouts of laying eggs with blood on them.  Im not sure why.  I have checked vents repeatedly and find no issues.  It happens for a week or so then stops, then starts then stops.  Everyone is alive and well, just this anomaly from time to time.  I really hope its not Blossom as there have been no issues with anyone from that pen at all.  

It was a nice day today at work cause nobody gave us a hard time and were pleasant enough.  Not getting yelled at or cursed at is always a good day.  Came home to everyone out freeranging.  Dh let them out when he got home.  Checked my eggs in the bator and nothing yet.  The waiting is the worst part.  I was a good girl and took my doctors suggestion to take a statin and now I am paying bigtime.  It dawned on my today as I was talking to my pharmacist that the extreme joint pain I am having started shortly after I started taking it.  Im done.  I would rather have high cholesterol (and its not really that high, around 220)) than take any more of these stupid meds.  I have tried the whole gammit of classes and alternatives.  Done.  I know they work for many people but I seem to be the exception to every rule.  Hopefully this crap will be completely out of my system in a few days and I can get back to normal.

Those drugs kill off something inside your body....I watched a man die of liver failure after taking those statin drugs for over 10 years. Not for me. I'll die of high clorestorol thank you. Liver failure is NOT the way to go.

Maybe it is...I'll have to look at what bag says. But I thought the protein in raiser was higher. Maybe I'm thinking wrong. Her eggs are the smallest of the three silkies. So they're not abnormally large or anything. I'll give her a closer look tomorrow when I let everyone out.

Can anyone tell me if there is something I can do, or if there is something wrong with my Silkie that is laying eggs covered in blood? When the first one was laid I thought ok, maybe it's normal cuz it's the first egg. Well everyone after that (about 5 or 6 now has been laid with this splash of blood on it.



I have never dealt with anything like this before. Her vent seems normal, not prolapsed or anything. Is she lacking something in her diet? Anything I can do to help her?

I have a silky that does the same thing every time she starts laying again and she does it for a few times then stops. Just an FYI she is my broodiest silky too matter of a fact she has 5 littles following her around right now. Yes the protein is higher in Raiser feed.

Pharm you be careful with that my hubby had the same problem and his dear wife the nurse told him to suck it up and take it that he needed to take it for a while to see about side effects then it dawned on me wait he is having a statin drug reaction. He took it so long cause I told him to suck it up that he was having to sit at work cause his legs were so week and hurt . Yes I know Bad wife and Bad Nurse. Do you have high blood sugar too if so ask your doctor about the combo med Welchol it comes in a powder or pills but when you take the pills you take like 6 a day and is for sugar and cholesterol and that is the only one he could take. He takes nothing now since losing a 159 lbs
