Had to Share this egg I cooked this morning ...
Went outside & forgot it ...OH WELL

The white was as crispy as a potato chip

haha ..when i first seen this pic i thought it was a egg yoke sitting on a stake..a stake and eggs breakfast sounds good anyways..lol

Too funny, Gramma! Talk about eggs "over hard!" I thought the same thing wny egger did: steak and eggs!

I don't know what it is about this plant, but the chicks love it.

Welcome to our coop, Frita........... your little chickies are cute as can be!

nice lite rain here perfect for watering the garden, so not looking forward to the stickiness that's coming.
Girls are doing good still wont take a dust bath, changed pans added ashes, seedling mix, cleared out spot in garden nothing. Just been dusting them with DE and ash mix by hand. Little extra work but they deal with better then the dog getting his tick spray applied.

I could never get mine to dust in pans. When I dug a shallow depression and lined it with DE and play sand, the girls took to it right away. Only one bird didn't use it out of the 7. You could give that a shot to save yourself the task of having to dust them yourself.

But the burrs really REALLY get dug in on horse manes

Can't you eat it too ???

Burrs in my horse's long tail are THE WORST. I have to pick them apart and then finger comb the knots left behind with all the bits of burrs remaining before I can comb his tail out. Grrrrrr!

Once again, a few days off BYC due to an insane schedule and I am hopelessly behind.

I scanned thru back posts as best I could but have obviously missed a lot.

Lynzi: just wanted to say I'm sorry about your hubby losing his job. That really stinks. But if you've got to lose a job, then summer in CNY is as good a time as you'll get. Hope something comes his way soon that he will enjoy .... but meanwhile, enjoy the family time!

Still have one Columbian Rock VERY broody here; I have to lock her in the pen a few times a day to make sure she's getting enough to eat and drink, especially with hot weather. At night, I have to pull her out of the nest box and put her on the roost with the others. If it's too light out, she just rushes back to the box. She is not laying many eggs right now. Ugh!

Congrat's to Glass Hen and everyone else finding brand new, little chicks waiting for them. How wonderful!

To all our NEWBIES ... a big WELCOME to BYC!

How old are they ? what is in the pan ? mine dont like ashes ..just regular dirt .
Put some sunflower seeds in the dirt ...mix it in so they have to search for them ..they will get the idea .

Yesterday I picked up the 2 unhatched duck eggs to throw them out. They moved in my hand and one had a pip in it. So I put them back. Today the one with the pip hadn't done anything further, so I picked off the entire shell and the chicken momma helped it get out of the membrane by picking at the membrane.
have never taken babies away from their momma...I just figured they can't count so they wouldn't miss the babies. Guess I was wrong, at least when it comes to ducks.

Hey, if the last one hatches that will be 100% of the eggs hatching. Guess my Drake IS doing his job, even if he keeps falling off the girls while doing it. LOL
Cool ...they were just late bloomers ..maybe they were on the edge of the nest so they didnt get as much direct heat from Momma .
How did you sell them ?
I guess ducks can count .

I think my one Blue Americana I got from you is Mean Marges chick ...boy is she Mean as a broody .
She is on the end of the nesting boxes ..so I have to reach past her to get eggs , etc ...
She loves to nail hands & shes got my arm a few times
Quote: Im okay with it too ...some people wouldnt like their location shown ..It does help to see where everyone is ...so if we wanted to swap .

Quote: I did a experiment with the chickens this year ...and the garden
My original flock always come running when I grab a shovel .
I put up a plastic barrier where I was doing major weeding . Grabbed a chicken or two and put them in with me .
It worked fine they helped with weeding some ...nibbled on turnip greens ( I have them for them anyway ) debugged & dewormed the soil .
I think I will put some scratch outside the fence maybe they can weed the outside before the plant invade the garden .

Does any one know how to teach a broody to turn eggs? Alls I see them do is set .
Luney Monkey didnt hatch any successfully ..she only wants to attack when I try to get her to turn her eggs .
Chippy is sweet ...she will let me check her egg & then will roll it back ...
she does this spiked hair / spiked feather thing on her head..so cute

Think their going on four to five months old been running them in x pen run (put it between rows in garden) throw some seed mix / ground up liver fish mix get them scratching. Night been putting them back in coop with dust bath which all three sleep in. Really no big deal DE everything in the summer anyways keep flies down fleas away from all the critters.

Burdock root can be eaten, I've used in a tea with lots of honey to help with p.m.s cleanses the liver, used the tea on sunburn. Please always do your own research. Use to use WD 40 to get the buries out of a bratty pony.

Rancher did the Rhubarb stalks ever root for you? If so did you use rooting hormone, aspirin, or willow? Love the fence kinda like what I have the tomatoes tied up with.
