NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning All! Candled my 5 eggs I added to Brinsea "A". 2 weren't developing but 3 were. I think they were both from my blue Silkie hen. So I added two from my other splash and kept the newest dated one out for the next add. So right now I have 2 eggs I'll move to Brinsea "B" on the 6th, 3 that I'll move on the 11th and 2 (if they start developing) on the 14th. I'm glad I bought this second Brinsea so I could keep things rotating.

On another note, one of my splash Orp chicks isn't doing too well. It's the smallest of the bunch, sleeps all the time, it's legs are wayy skinnier than the others, doesn't seem to be growing. I have it separated for now hoping it'll eat and drink without being pushed out of the way by the 10 others it was with. Gonna try some yogurt too.

I find chicks with skinny legs don't make it. I've seen them eat and all, but then one morning, they've left for chick heaven.

I reckon there was something wrong I couldn't see.

Where did you get your orps?

Tabitha ? You there? how are those orps I gave you doing?

Too bad it didnt work that way with humans !

So they could do it when Im not looking ?
Luney Monkeys eggs - pretty sure she wasnt on them enough ..She did a lot of egg hopping.( Definitely Not a Good Broody ! )
One hatched didnt absorb the yolk ? one matured didnt hatch . I guess you get better odds if you give them more eggs ?
I only give them a couple as I dont want to be overrun with chickens ...or not sure if new broodys know what they are doing

Think their going on four to five months old been running them in x pen run (put it between rows in garden) throw some seed mix / ground up liver fish mix get them scratching. Night been putting them back in coop with dust bath which all three sleep in. Really no big deal DE everything in the summer anyways keep flies down fleas away from all the critters.

Burdock root can be eaten, I've used in a tea with lots of honey to help with p.m.s cleanses the liver, used the tea on sunburn. Please always do your own research. Use to use WD 40 to get the buries out of a bratty pony.

Rancher did the Rhubarb stalks ever root for you? If so did you use rooting hormone, aspirin, or willow? Love the fence kinda like what I have the tomatoes tied up with.

I got Rhubarb from a couple of places. One box of three from TSC only had two but they're doing okay. I potted them up before I could put them outside and set them in a window. A couple I got at the Fayetteville Church plant sale and they're doing good too. I planted them in raised beds this time. One has big stalks but I didn't pick them since I don't need any right now. I've plenty frozen in the freezer.

I've read a recipe for Rhubarb tea, but haven't made it. Every time we go to the book store I see recipes in magazines but don't buy them cuz they're expensive and I can't see spending $4- $10 for one magazine.

I've never rooted stalks of it. I didn't know you could. Now I do have some Pussy willow cutting in a bucket of water and some in some potting soil, hoping they take.

Now I do have recipe for Egg plant meat balls. No meat though. If there are any veggie terrorists on here.

well i went out last nite to the coop about 930 and all my birds were on the perches..which never happens and they were very quite for some reason ..at one end i kept hearing movement in the straw and i figured one had desided to bed down at the food end of the coop..i looked but no bird ..i heard it again and caught site of something moving..it turns out my birds truely are chickens all afraid of a big old bullfrog ..i have no idea how it got in the coop..but it was lucky it went in the new birds pen because my old birds would have had froglegs for bedtime snack..lol

i had one of the new birds slip threw the temp fence i put up to split the run inhalf for my old flock and new flock to share the run..everyone keeps asking me when i will put them all together ..well from what i seen in the short time she was in with the old birds ,its not going to be for awhile ..she was trying to stay away from the old birds but they were not happy she slipped threw and i think she learned her lesson about those older birds too ..i rescued her as fast as i seen it happen ..she was bit up pretty good ..no blood but maybe some emoitionel scar's..and maybe some nite terrors .but she was ok..anyways i figured i wouldnt attemped to put the 2 flocks together till they are all on layer feed..

oh yeah one more thing ..a buddy of mine just lost a bunch of birds to an animal called a fisher cat ..i never heard of one and in all my yrs spent in the woods never seen or heard of one ..if you dont no what they are look them up ..they are killers and are all over ny it looks like ..i seen a vid of one attacking a fox ..it wasnt letting the fox go ..anyways he lost a bunch of birds and its just anotrher preditor to watch out for....

I would have thought there'd be something like that near this Creek but I haven't noticed anything like it.

Now I did find a dead squirrel near the back of my large hoop coop. Didn't look eaten and don't know what it died from. I really should have looked at it better but I just tossed it into the woods.

In the Duck news. Traded my five Swedish to Nutty, for seven Columbian rock chicks. Without the Ducks I've moved two EE hens in that coop so I now have two half hoops with one broody hen each.

One a Blue ee has 7 chicks. Five her own and I just tossed in one from a BR hen, who is still sitting one eggs. While the chicks are more than a few days apart in age, she seems fine with them and they seem fine with each other.

I also moved 11 older chicks in with the Dels and while the Dels don't pester them too much they're having a time getting used to being out of the brooder. They're not much smaller than Frenchy and more than a couple are roos. I reckon any hens will lay green or olive eggs.

In good news, we just found out that DW's disability insurance for her car loan will pay off her car next month. It's a Chevy Cobalt and we're waiting on this recall thing. Still it's nice not to have to worry about that.

Good Afternoon all!!

I did set up a map for those interested. If you would PM me the nearest city/town/village/hamlet/burb that you live in I can add them to the list as you desire.

It passed away this morning :-( didn't even have time to try to save it. But yes I definitely think something was wrong I couldn't see. These chicks are from my birds-Gru the splash roo, Stella my lavender hen from Erin Ellerbruch in Oneida, and Ella, my blue hen ( Gru and Stella's daughter) so I guess that would make 4 of these chicks my own 2nd generation if they came from a bird I hatched last year??

Hi everyone! I haven't been able to get on here much. Between living in the woods and the crappy weather my internet is being a pain. Been dealing with some small horse issues too, ugh. Anyway I have a 10 week old pair of BCM from Wade/Davis lines I'm selling, they have clean legs and im only keeping feather legs. I have them listed for $30 but if anyone on here is interested I'm sure we could work out a trade

Just wanted to put that out there. On the subject of fishers, we have alot around here. My cousin has trapped 3 of them. They are scary looking little things. We have seen one on our property but that was years ago. More chicks are hatching, got a NN surprise today! Definitely wasn't expecting that! Have a good day everyone!
