NY chicken lover!!!!

Reminder about the Finger Lakes Feather Club show June 5th. The entries should have been in by the 23rd, but they allow late entries....

Hope a lot of bycers come at least to watch. They will have sales cages there, and I will be bringing some Partridge Bantam Wyandotte started chicks, some Marans chicks, Wheaten Ameraucana chicks.

Even if you don't show, you can buy sale cages. They are $4 per cage, with a limit of 4 birds per cage. Just show up early. The show starts at 9am. at the Poultry Building atthe State Fair Grounds.

You cannot sell out of your car.

They have a 50/50 reaffle, chinese auction of bird, an another auction of a multitude of things.

Eggscartons.com is supposed to be there with things to sell, and they usually donate a lot to the chinese auctions. Last year I won an incubator, nesting box and a color copy of the APA Standard of Perfection, so its really worth it to come!

I have buckeyes!!!!! Got them from a breeder last fall. I was hoping to sell some of the offspring this year. BUT as we all know, what a snowy winter we had and that delayed my putting them in the breeding pen. So we got a late start. Then when I did move them to the pen, they all stopped laying! I am new at this and didn't count on this. One has started to lay again, hopefully the rest will follow. I may be able to sell some later in the year.....If anybody wants some. I can give you the name of the breeder, though I don't think that he is breeding them this year. He is outside Oneonta. Note my avitar...My 2 buckeye roosters. Handsome fellows and good guys to boot! I was hoping to replace the pictures with some fluffy butt babies but it will have to wait......

I did see someone in Garretsville..I think that was the name...I thought those were Buckeyes..but I am not a pro!...I am working on a trade right now...but will remember that you have them! Thanks so much! I so wish I had a huge coop!!!!

yes! yes! more specifically, it was garrettsville that I got mine from. I didn't think he was breeding them this year. they are great birds! Friendly without being needy. They are very talkative however. If you have close neighbors the neighbors will hear them.

Yup that was it...bad speller...I emailed them but never heard back...I hope to get some from a BYCer this week or next...just hope they hatch...I had 6 out of 13 go to lockdown but some just quit...and a few pipped and then died..so sad..I have two...yellowish one and a buff one...does that mean anything?...the color?

One of the Lavender Amerucana chicks died while I was at work today. I am sooooo sad.

I can't just throw it in the garbage, but it is too wet to bury it. I want to bury it by the duckling I lost last year.

I should have been more attentive....but lack of experience caused me to overlook the very first signs....I probably could have saved her if I had started treatment as soon as I got her home.

I am soooo sad. She was my favorite. I hope it gets easier to lose one once in a while, cuz if it doesn't I don't want to have chickens.

What do you think it was?

Transportation from original breeder to person I bought it from and from her house, 3 hours in car, to my house all in less than 2 weeks. Stress. Possibly being crushed in one of the trips. In hindsight she never was right from the moment I put her in the brooder. She kept laying on her side and had a hard time staying awake. I had 2 that looked alike, so I can't say for sure that I ever saw her eat. It could have been the other one. Could be she is the one I put up to my face and I have cooties. I thought better of that and didn't do it with the other ones. I'm not ill, at the moment, but she was less than 2 weeks old, so even normal germs might have done it. My inexperience. I just don't know. The other three are healthy and running around in a space that is waaaaaaaaaay larger than 3 two week olds need.
