NY chicken lover!!!!

I wish I did but I have none after that stupid raccoon killed them all! The ones I have now that just hatched are coming with me since they are still in a brooder and will be for the next few weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can find a house that will allow me to raise them there as well as bring my silkies back there. If for some reason we don't get the house we want and can't find anything else, I'll let ya know. ;-)
Do you have a Silky roo?

you said this happened before..is the address info correct ?
Its too bad these babies suffered / starved to death . I would call the Post office where they stayed for 2 days & ask why ?
also where they insured ? you could file a claim .
You should have a confirmation number to let you know where they are. Too make sure new chicks gets started with a drink of Sugar water right off the bat. Dip each chicks beak in the water to make sure they get a drink. I used sugar water for a the first couple of days.

I never ended up relaxing today went out and played with my new lambs one of them is like a big puppy will follow you all over the place the other is going to take some working with. Then I bottle fed some of the goats although it was actually relaxing I love being with my animals. Have some sizzle Frizzles hatching and some sizzles. Tomorrow first I have to go get some feed then going to can some Jalapenos have lots of them popping up in the garden and DH loves them. I might actually crochet some tonight I have lots of different sweaters I want to make just not enough time in the day. I have to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at the Hospital, before you know it college will be back in session and I will be teaching again.

On the hatchery birds I am coming in kinda late so may have missed some of the posts but the post office doesn't guarantee express mail for birds they can still take 3 days to get to you. Plus the other thing I have found is if you select Express they take longer to get to you than priority. I know if you call the hatchery they will replace the birds that died or refund you whichever you choose.

Now as I recall I ordered chicks from Paul Harter and they were late and he sent my back my shipping. Too there is insurance on Express mail. Paul was very nice about things and did replace the lost chicks.

I'm going to. Was really upset, the most help the woman i talked to was to remind me to have water available for them as soon as I got them home. We set up the brooder, had the food and water dish ready to be filled, made sure we had the electrolytes on hand etc. The first batch we got was only 2 days old, and it made a huge difference in how lively the birds were when we got them. The part that really sucks is the best looking birds are the ones passing away. GLW's are pretty but the chicks are alot uglier than SLW or columbian wyandottes are. my 13 year old daughter fell in love with them and so did my DW. they are nursing a third bird tonight, sleeping with her on my wifes chest and planning to get up every 2-3 hours and try to water her and feed her some watered down FF.
Have to ask.., what did you order? How many did you order? Is there some reason you couldn't get those breeds local?

Here is a pic of the finished sweater. I think I did all right for being a beginner and self taught. It fit my youngest daughter pretty good and it looks cute on her.

Grey day today and heavy with the promise of rain. Had to physically put two of the juveniles back into the coop last night. They couldnt figure out that the ramp was the way in and were in panic mode as the others were already in. Thankfully no predators were around last night as Clyde and one of the pullets were out all night under the coop. I will have to lay down the law with the older girls for a few nights to make sure that doesnt happen again. The two boys that havent been processed yet tried to challenge me last night. I chased them around a bit with the cockeral correction tool to let them know who was boss. They couldnt run fast enough. Needless to say, wont be long before they go as well.

Tab--rabbits are tasty! I hope you get them before they clean out your garden. My finger is healing well. My knee, well thats going to be a while.

Rancher--hope you get the box figured out. Yup, these companies always have all these hidden fees and surcharges and taxes that you dont know about until they show up on your bill. I pay more in those and delivery charges to my electric company than what my actual electric usage charges are. Its rediculous. We are being taxed, fee'd and surcharged to death.

Elroddo--I hope you can save those birds. You may be better off getting some from a breeder. Try looking on the breed websites and see if there is a breeder in state listed.

Everyone have a good day.
Nice work on the sweater. You're much more ambitious than I am.

No that was a joke. They just keep adding things, to the TV commercial price, it's just ridiculous.

LOL! PHEW!

I rehomed my Silkie roo cuz he was mean mean mean! I have 3 Silkie hens under my Frizzled sizzle roo that came from a woman in MI who hatched Sheri Minkner's eggs. So at least I still have her lineage from him. He's a 15th or 16th generation sizzle.

Well I still have those Frizzle/Auracana eggs if you have a mind to hatch. I'd like to see what they produce.

I'm going to be pulling all eggs from the three hens sitting and be done with it.

One BR hen has just two B. Marans eggs.

One BR hen has lots of EE eggs that other keep laying and I don't pull them cuz I don't know which is which at this point. She's a biter and it hurts. I'm sure her eggs are good but she's been sitting far to long as it is. Any EE chicks she hatches will most likely be Olive eggers if they're pullets.

The EE has just two eggs left. I will candle hers and see what's what. I tried to break her but she's a persistent snot.

Of the hens with chicks, one has nine and one has eight.

I could do with one less roo for the EE's but Shorty is an Auraucana and the EE roo is a good size so I keep him .

If Frenchy lays anything I will have to fire up the incu.

Just lost my 3rd chick out of 8. My wife and daughter are home crying, while I'm at work. Just sent an email to mypetchicken, we'll see if it does me any good. Next time I want new chicks theres a hatchery by the finger lakes I'm going to get them from. Unfortunately for me they didn't have the breeds I wanted, they will in the spring. So I'm going to wait, hope the 13 birds I have stay healthy and take care of them the best I can. Thank you all for the support and well wishes.
