NY chicken lover!!!!

Welcome to all the new folks, the western part of the state is coming on strong!

Leah, I am so sorry about your babies. Elroddo, I was sad about your experience too! Poor little things. I have some hatchery birds in my flock, but I have protected myself from the shipping losses by buying them from the feed stores in the spring. There probably are losses, but I never see them. The middleman saves me that experience, and I guess that is worth it. They are still hatchery birds, and I bought three SLWyandotts, as they grew up, each one had a different comb. Eunice has a single comb, Flavia has a sort of raised flat comb, and poor Phoebe had a pea comb. She also had an encounter with a hawk that didn't go well.

I do hear good things about Natureberry Farm, I hope to go there sometime, and would buy from them in a heart beat.

I found a place called Roo Haven Farm in Forestville... just wrote on their FB page to see if they have any day-old chicks.
So sad that our Meyer order ended like this. :(

I haven't posted in a while but we FINALLY got our chicks. I ordered from Meyer hatchery and they shipped yesterday/arrived today at noon. 3 out of four of the chicks were dead on arrival...I am so, so sad. Something must have happened in shipping. I have a lone, surviving Buff Orpington. She is sad but alive... a bit wobbly but she has had something to drink and eat.

Here is our lone survivor.

If anyone knows of a person selling chicks in the Jamestown area, I'd like to get her a friend. :(

If you weren't so far away I could give you a couple. Sorry I can't be of help. Perhaps someone headed your way?

I have been contacting a few people. One hatchery in Forestville, but they don't have any chicks at the moment (really nice people, though)! I also have a question into a feed supply store in Cassadaga. Hopefully I can find a friend for her. She's snuggled up with a little stuffed walrus at the moment (I stuck a stuffed toy in there to keep her company, along with a mirror).

Leah - Frankly - I would call and say she passed - because her chances from all our experience is low .... and the quicker you get companions for her - the better her chances - kind of a catch 22 if you try to do it perfectly after others have not done their job well.

Good luck !!!!
