Wouldn't you know the two full sized hens have picked the same box and peck at each other but are all stuffed in there and refusing to move.

Home again home again!
Came home to my last little chickie in the incubator! Poor baby was all dry and fluffy, must have hatched early yesterday evening or last night.

400

So that's 6 out of 6 eggs that hatched out of my first sizzle hatch! And it looks like I have a frizzled sizzle, frizzled Silkie, and a smooth sizzle. So excited!!!!

You are getting the hang of this hatching thing!

Metella, they are not very logical, that's why they have us.

Was rediscovering the raspberry bushes when I heard and saw two crows cawing and chasing a bigger bird. I swear they were saying Hawk, Hawk, not caw caw. They took care of it chased it into the woods. Very smart birds.

I'm in New field right outside of Ithaca. My big coop is getting built at the beginning of next month which will leave my small coop open for guineas.

So this is what I've learned about coops. Bigger is better and less Bigger coops is better than lots of smaller coops.

I can keep other breeds in with Dels which lay light brown eggs and know which hen laid which. IF the other breed lays a different color egg, such as EE's or Amers or Marans. The same with my CRocks, which also lay light brown eggs.

If I keep EE's or Amer hens in with my Birchen Marans I can tell their eggs and any crosses will lay Olive eggs if pullets.

So if I had three large coops and one small instead of five coops it would be easier to care for them.

Of course what to do with brooding hens, and brooded chicks would still be a problem.

Another chick hatched so the lone star now had a partner. Another Birchen Marans.

I do have EE chicks for sale or trade if anyone has a mind. Not sure the sex off hand though and will post pics when I can. I only intend to keep the Marans and three or four of the others. Three are lavender and I won't keep any of the roos, just the pullets. Not sure which is which right now. They're still young.

I'll take a walk to my neighbor and see what's happening down there. See if he hatched any Guineas. I have been seeing some building going on. Not surprised by that.

My DD used to live in Lockport. She's in TX now since she wasn't notified that Buffalo had a teaching job for her till two weeks before the school year started here and she'd moved there and already begun teaching.

I'm so mad at NYS government I could scream. I now have to fly to see my grandson.
