NY chicken lover!!!!

We have Carpenter Bees all around the house here. Lots of little holes they have drilled too. They will reuse holes. I don't mind them so much b/c they don't appear to be anywhere near aggressive no matter how close you get to them or their holes - and they pollinate =)
Sure but you don't want them drilling holes in your house.

This is what I found tonight. Chicken bunk beds.

apparently the broody mommas are both done sleeping in the nesting box and this chick and other tucked under moms wing made it up. The other 3 are piled together in the nesting box
Cute ! I cant see a 2nd chick ... that they are wanting to roost is a sign they are close to the end of their broody cycle ..
My Sumatra when she did this..about a week later she ended her broodiness & did nt want to me mom after that .
She would peck the chick when it came near

Lucy has been roosting for almost a week now. She doesn't peck at the babies but tends to ignore them. Today she was with them again. I guess she can't make up her mind lol. I'm sure tomorrow night I'll have more chicks on the roost. Sophie the other mom still calls them to eat. I think she will keep nurturing them. She seems to like being a momma. Lucy before I got her eggs was sitting for almost 2 weeks so I'm guessing after 5 weeks of sitting on eggs then raising babies that she has had enough. Sophie didn't go broody till I got the hatching eggs

Yes 5 weeks is a long time ...pretty boring too . Sounds like Sophie has more time left ...for babies

Well I had a bad surprise this Morning .
A dead Hen in the coop ..no sign of any trauma . I think she died in her sleep .
Goldie was 2 1/2 years old ...a hatchery chick ..She had a very good life here .
She was a part of the group of four of the 1st chickens we got .

42 eggs won't fit under a tiny little bantam chicken, who's already claimed about 8 of her own  ;)

Haha! I agree. Didn't know you had that many eggs or that she was already sitting on some, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested that.
I keep picturing your bantam sitting on 42 eggs and it cracks me up :)

Sorry to hear about Goldie. I'm sure she was one very happy, spoilt chicken during her life with you,

:weee So happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ya I have one chick that is almost all out and one more with a pip and is chirping up a storm! So happy. I have 2 more eggs that aren't doing anything yet. Today is day 22 so I'll give them some more time. Maybe water test them to see if they are still alive tomorrow. I'll get some pics when they are all out and dry!

Oh and had a family reunion today here at the house. AWESOME DAY! just hate the clean up...We all decided that we need to do it next year

OMG you must be so excited! I'm so happy for you! Congrats!! Can't wait to see pics
