NY chicken lover!!!!

hey im new on byc so i have no idea where to post this kind of question, and it seems hardly important enough to start a thread, so I thought I would try here first.

Anybody have any idea what gender this bird (wheaten amercana) is that i got at chickenstock

i think its a male, hes so cute and I love him, SO MUCH personality!! These are my first birds and it's fascinating to me how individual they all are. I hope this "he" is actually a "she" because I already have too many males that I'm going to have to come up with a plan for soon.

I'm not an expert at all ! and usually wait for the crow ! ha ha

but the tail looks henny - and I don't see any hackle feathers .... so my bet is hen. Perhaps just a very forward hen.

it is a little bit of a drive, but if you want great feed, Pine Creek Farm and Feed in Lyons, has the best feed ive ever seen, fresh ground, about $18-20 for an 80# bag. i think i pay $12ish for 50# of scratch. i will post a pic of this feed later today, its not pulverized into a powder like alot of mills do, it looks more like bird feed, They also have that non-gmo feed if your into that. I swear if you try their feed you will never buy anything else! it takes me an hour one way, but so worth the trip. probably take you about the same. they have different protein levels of layer feed so you can choose. i think thet might be Mennonite? its kinda cool to see all the little kids barefoot running around the store. i swear that little kid operating the forklift was only 8 years old! his little bare feet could barely reach the pedals! lol

Oh this is aweful. Did this go on a credit card? We use Discover Card and if you call them and file a complaint they will do a charge back to the business and credit you. You could show them this photo. You can show the photo to the merchant first and request a full refund, so they avoid the chargeback. I'd be happy to help you clean your coop, if you live nearby. I'm over by Utica. I clean out the chicken coop about every 5 days or so, it stays good for a while because it's only the 3 little bantams. I'm getting good at coop cleaning. :) They keep their nesting boxes immaculate, make it easy for me.
Thanks for the offer, I'll got to CM and buy more shavings. It's not the cleaning that's hard as I do one or two a day.

I know Lees has changed hands, but folks who run these places should know a thing or two about keeping animals and cleanliness. You can't feed animals dirty hay, or put them on shavings already soiled. The staff at these places should know that too.

We pay cash and it won't kill me but it does upset me.

Morning all. Came home last night after work and cleaned both big coops out and freshened them up. Of course I had nosy chickens under foot the whole time. Locked the litte reds out of their coop and run so I could monitor who got back in . Had to make the seven I moved to the terrorist coop go back in that coop. I was playing gatekeeper and only letting the younger crew back into their coop. After I had finished putting down new shavings in the terrorists coop, it was too funny watching them go up the people stairs and put their foot up on the doorway then freeze, looking and nervously bawking then running away! Clyde was the funniest. He had the whole "what the #&*$& is THAT?" look on his face! Gotta love chicken therapy! The little silkies were being a pain last night about going to bed. I had to keep after them before they finally went up the ramp. By that time, I really needed to go in and take something for my knees and back. Figures the kids would act up on a night you just wanted to sit down for a bit! I have one hen that isnt acting right. She is fiesty when you pick her up but mostly just kinda stands or lays around sleeping on and off. Not sure whats up. No outward signs of anything and she is at a good weight. Not eggbound. We shall see what happens. Have to put another food station inside the terrorist coop so the newbies can eat too. Some guarding going on by a couple of the hens. Clyde is trying to stand his ground but is still too young yet to really give them whatfor. At four months old, he is as big as them but hasnt filled out yet nor finished growing. He is a handsome boy though.

Baun--hard to tell from the pic if your bird is a roo or hen. A good face shot would help.

Rancher--I cant believe that someone would knowingly put a bale like that in dw car. I hope they make it right for you.

Long day today. Working a double so I wont be back till tomorrow. Have a good day everyone!

Sorry but I do. A kid wouldn't care.

Anyhow. I went to Country Max and after paying for the sale shavings found out they had the Nobles brand I prefer for 10 cents more. They were more than happy to refund my money and switch to the 10 bales of Nobles. The young people there are very nice. I don't mind shopping there now. With the exception that they don't always have the Nobles or the feed I might be looking for.

The Cicero store usually is well stocked.

I'll just used the dirty stuff for much in my herb garden around the raised beds. .

So yesterday my automatic turner died
