NY chicken lover!!!!

The rule in NY to qualify for Ag Exemption, the farmer needs to produce $10,000 in ag product annually. That would be a lot of expensive chickens.

Right, I'm sure it's a lot but I've read some cases where the people were making almost enough but just needed an extra boost in order to keep it. That's what I was thinking, some people are looking for others to come in and farm, raise livestock, etc with their land so they can keep that tax exemption. So if say 1 other person is going to use their land for farming crops, maybe they'd rent to me cheap in order to help them keep that status. Another couple got in touch with me last night but they are 30 mins away. However they have 30 acres and nothing on it. All they have is 2 dogs. The woman has a horse that she even boards elsewhere. Maybe I could help her care for it if she got over to her property.

I had a hen break a leg during the winter. I set her up in the brooder box in the house by herself for a month. Didnt mess with trying to set the leg or wrap it in fear of further injury or restricting blood flow. She healed herself just fine. Leg is thicker than the other with a lump were the break was, but she is back with the flock and normal. If Clyde won't be confined, can he be moved to an empty brooder with a friend?

So I have a question/idea... My husband bought 3 dozen eggs at an auction last night and when I was making scrambled eggs this morning I noticed they were fertilized... Can I try to hatch some chicks out of these?

I'm sure you can. Even if they've been refrigerated there is still a good chance they'll hatch. Though Lord only knows what you'll get.

Good morning everyone!

My broody hen would explain recent attacks on my son by our roo lol he plays a major role in taking care of the chickens.
I have seen 2 juvenile skunks 2 juvenile raccoons n 1 weasel. These sightings have been within 100 yards of dewey n lake ave in Rochester. Which is near my house. I got a trap set up so hopefully no skunks lol.

Have a great day
Afternoon , He maybe acting chicken ...( your son ) Rooster are very good at reading timidity . He needs to come in like he is boss ...Give the rooster eye contact ...
Then chase it ! The other thing I do is I tell my Rooster get out of the way ...Im coming through ..even stomp my foot to confirm it ...A few things to try ..

Heres hoping they go the other way ...(the varmints) <- who knew this had a N....

Thanks for all the well wishers For Yap Yap . She has stayed in the coop today ..still traumatized I guess ...I heard a hawk across the road earlier ..I hope it stays there .

Yes you can use them to incubate .. Yap Yap is a successful frig egg ..that was stored for about a month
Before you do that take them out & let them come to room temperature ..so that the change is gradual to them ...No idea how many will hatch ..
I had 1 out of 3 ...it is worth a try ...Cant wait to see what the mystery chicks will be

Heres some Advice from Stony ..about baby chicks ...with a story of course
I have said this before and it happened again today so I'll repeat and tell today's story.
Last night I did not do lock up as I was at a wedding. I got up this morning and let my birds out.
Before I opened the coop I found a "dead" 2 week old chick. I knew who's baby it was .
She has 13 including the one I found. Stiff as a board and cold as the outside morning air. When I say stiff, I mean stiff.
I put the chick in a box in the sun and went about my morning business. To tell the truth I forgot about the chick for a few hours.
About 2 hours later I went to check on the chick. It was standing up looking at me.
I had just seen it's mom and sibling taking a dust bath so I picked it up and returned it to mama.
This has happened to me quite a few times over the last 10 years.
A dead chick that isn't dead. If I had to guess 25% of the "dead" chicks were not dead.
Think of this next time you find a "dead" chick. It may just be cold and need warming up
