NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone need any rabbits?
ep.gif
I'm making cuts to my show herd of Silver Fox rabbits this week and I hate to eat does... I have at least two or three breeding age available as well as a Jr, $25 each without pedigrees or $35 each with. I also have one show quality Jr pair available too, $50 each with pedigrees.

I also have one extra white call drake and a pair of young Khaki Campbell ducklings. Shoot me an email if you are interested in any of the above, I'd entertain trades for fencing, wire cages or a barn fan. Or bales of hay. Heck, you name it, I could probably use it. Sigh. I also am going to need assorted baby stuffs since I am apparently having another one at 40.

I also have a Blind Indian Runner drake if anyone would like a House Duck? Poor thing got attacked in the coop a couple days ago along with a Khaki Campbell young hen, I think the drake will recover but it looks like he lost the eye on one side, and its iffy if the other side is blinded or not, poor ducky.

I think I am going to have to put down the other one though, it got a pretty serious bite on its leg that I had difficulty getting to stop bleeding, its leg does not look good, anyone know if I can give her a shot of Penicillin?

One of my Cayugas hatched out three ducklings, and thats three ducklings more than I or three other ducks have hatched here! One of my Buffs is sitting on eggs again, maybe she will do better this time?

We eat a lot of eggs, or I hatch them or toss them back to the chickens. I don't really have enough to sell on a regular basis. Are there regs in NYS we're supposed to follow if we do sell eggs?

Of course if I decided to start selling eggs I'd have to pen the ducks so I could actually FIND where they put theirs!

There is someone from south of Albany that has been trying to sell chicks, then pullets then hens since last year. I think they are up to $15 a hen now and they are close to a year old. I have been selling pure Sussex, Brahma & Australorp chicks-straight run, for $3 each and mutt chicks for $2 each. After buying incubators and running them for 3 weeks then brooding them till someone picks them up there isn't much room for profit. I sell my eggs to people at work (I work in a school) and to my childrens friends families for $2/dozen. I am totally sold out on eggs daily. I believe we have about 35 hens laying now and getting 2 dozen or so a day. Animals will not likely get you much money but I just hope they can at least pay their way for feed. Good luck!

Thanks

I get roughly 18 a day...for chicken eggs that is

All I want is to pay 1/2 the amount I'm forking now.I consider this a hobby of mine and love doing it.If I could ever get more than that? Great!

NYRIR,
I take my eggs to work and sell them there. I get $3 a dozen. Plus I sell them to neighbors. I never seem to have any. There is always someone waiting for the next dozen. There is a market. You just have to find yours. A hundred dollars a week sounds like an awful lot of money for 35 hens. I have nine hens and I don't spend that in a month....but I just bought more electric netting so they have a bigger pasture and can scratch for their own feed.
good luck

I'm still trying to find out...is there someone here who can point us in the right direction?

Does anybody have any info on the bridgeport auction?? I have alot of roos and some young stock that need to go. I am hopeing that it is on Sat., I don't have to work this weekend and I would like to move some birds around, but some of the older roos need to go.

Yesterday I took the divider down between my 6 week old Maran (who was picked clean by the 8 week olds) and my 3 week old Amerucanas. I just checked on them tonight and they are all laying together in a heap under the light, sleeping.

I did have them in the double brooder with hardware cloth between them for 48 hours before allowing them to try and live together.

Have you tried putting the silkie with the others?

My hubby just came upstairs and asked if the month old Ameraucanas were supposed to be in with the injured ducks. Sigh. He said the duck didn't seem to care, I said he probably doesn't know there are chickens in there anyways... He is super calm, so apparently Runner ducks calm right down if they happen to be blind?

I may just give the Khaki a shot and hope for the best.

I went to the show yesterday. Wow, I forgot how beautiful SQ chickens are, especially the roos. Almost bought some Langshans(sp?), but they were enough bigger than what I have now that I was worried about integrating them. so.. I was good

I adore the silkies, but also fell in love with Modern Games. What's up with that? Road Runner crossed on a super-model? Loved them. I see those here in the future. Polar opposite of a silkie, but so what. They really appeal to me, and now I need to do some serious research.
does anyone here have them, or know where to go for them or good info on them?
The coop and run are progressing slooooowly. It will be beautiful, and sturdy. Really really sturdy. Incase the chickens get really fat. Like 300+ pounds each fat.

I saw Renee, and briefly talked to Sue, but didn't know who anyone else was. I hope your birds all won!

We did bring home some Langshans ...My daughter loves them and we did have some but...well a long story and my other daughter doesn't like to talk about it...my girls were so set for Showmanship...they didn't have it...Did you get the list of show peoples? I don't know if more then one person had the moderns, but I do know of one person I can pass on the information if you would like..just let me know...How is you little boy?
