NY chicken lover!!!!

I use an old recycle box for my dust bath now. They know when they see me coming with it what it is and they go crazy. As soon as I put it down they are all trying to jump in. They circle the box till it is their turn, I told my kids that as soon as they grow out of their sand box that I'm going to use that. Then I can leave it in the run and put the lid on it when it is raining.

Neighbors dog came down again this afternoon.

I was getting ready to check on everyone and get DD off the bus. So I walked it home and then it beat me back. I got really mad when it decided to run up to my little girl. She was scared. Luckily it was the nice one. So I grabbed the leash and loaded it in the car and drove it up to the house. When they came to the door I shoved it in and said "I think THIS belongs to you, It was terrorizing mu ducks". I don't think that they are getting it. I don't like to ruffle their feathers so much cause I know that they are very well armed, but I may have to bring them home a dead dog if it tried to get one of my birds. Usually they would be free ranging at that time, but I didn't want to have to mess with them tonight cause DD had her Christmas concert this evening. I think that I'm going to get an air horn so that it will scare them home and let the neighbors know that their dog is here. Maybe they will they the idea...If not more drastic measures will need to be taken.

Don't you have a pound? Maybe if they had to pay to get the mutt back they might rethink keeping it home.

Course you could take it to a pet groomer and have it completely shaved bald and or get it a dye job. Then drop it off. I bet a couple of boxes of ladies home hair dye would do wonders.

The red lake stuff is grey. It is what I have been using all year with ZERO consequences. I never say anything about color when I was doing my research.

On a different note....

I'm so excited! My orpingtons have started laying!!!!
Now I'm even more hyped up to get me another incubator and start hatching as the eggs wont freeze in the coops!!!

I also now am the proudish mama to 3 Freedom Ranger Pullets. The plan is to breed them to both a white rock cock or an orpington cock to see what produces. The goal is to create a self sustaining meat flock.
I am interested in your thoughts on if I should start with the White Rock or the Orpington. Since I only have 3 of the girls they are going to stay with the same roo until those babies grow up to laying age. Then I will switch the girls to the other breed's roo.

Cool. You need to tell me more about that app. I don't know much about apps and all that. Is it something I can download to my computer? I have an idea.
Sorry - I don't know much about the app except it's called Waterlog and she has an IPad that it's on. OH yea...it costs $4. There may be another non Mac version available. It has filters to apply. I'm thinking about downloading it myself. Seemed fun to play around with - not all pictures turn out good but I liked my hen photo.

Not the dogs fault, but one must do what one must.
We had it happen in the town I work. Two huskies that were missing were found shot dead. They questioned a man who had threatened to shoot the dogs for killing his chickens, he said he didn't do it, the owner let the dogs run loose all the time. It was found that another man shot the dogs after seeing them chasing deer, I don't think that is justifiable, but more wild animals are killed by peoples pets than by humans or predators according to wildlife experts and the DEC.
The irresponsible owner of the dogs statement in the newspaper said she let the dogs out that morning, and later that afternoon when she noticed they were not around she knew something was wrong.
The story even made it on TV news. The man that shot the dogs was arrested on misdemeanor charges.
The irresponsible owner of the dogs set up a petition site to petition the court to try him on felony charges, and jail time. People from around the world signed it and commented horrible things they would do to the shooter.
The comments on local newspapers threatened the mans life.
There was some comments against the irresponsible owner. I commented that the dogs could have been shot by the man whose daughters pet chickens were killed, the commenters said dogs are family, chickens are livestock/food.
Apparently the woman didn't care about her 'family'.
