NY chicken lover!!!!

Lately I have used my extra older roos for dogfood. I am limited on space so I boiled down my butchered roos, deboned them ,put them in the blender and froze the result. I will be mixing it with eggs and rice for a homemade dogfood. Yes I will have to use a vitamin supplament with it. The vitamin supplament will cost me about $16 a month for 2 dogs. Rice is cheap, eggs and chicken I have. I figure it's a healthy way to feed my dogs without breaking the bank. I can also offer to take unwanted roos on processing day to stretch things even farther, while helping people get rid of unwanted Roos.

I'm starting to wonder if this Rancher Hicks guy really exists. Last spring I found this thread and appreciated it with the stories from the pharm and banter from RH, often helpful and entertaining. When chicken stock '14 came around RH was going to come and then something came up, and he couldn't make it. It was a great time. Got to meet Pharmchick & Gramma & Luv & several others, but no Rancher. As this years plans have been coming together, it sounded like he was in. I was getting ready to wear my own tin foil hat to make him feel more at home. But no, something came up again and we're not going to see him. Maybe this person who signs on as Rancher Hicks really lives in Siberia & wishes he could enjoy the glorious winters here in NY.

Just sayin

Well rest assured I exist. Last year DW was diagnosed with B. Cancer, so that made it hard. She's doing better of course. This year my daughter is having baby number two. DW didn't make it last time when the prince was born so this year it is very important for her to be there.

I have no doubt it was a great time last year and I'm sure this year will be good too.

I would never live in Siberia. It's much to cold here let alone in Siberia.

Please understand, DW takes priority even more than the chickens. A few lucky folks have met me so they know I exist. I do frequent TSC here in E. Syracuse you know. I may take a trip out to the new Runnings store though I'm not sure they can persuade me to desert my friends at TSC.
I've even forged a friendship of sorts with the kids at CM. Well at least we are more amiable than in times past. They're very nice kids.

I do have someone coming to pick up things to bring up to Ava, so be sure to be there.

Not for caponing, waiting over a year to pick biggest for breeding, I'll have to wait until hatching for capons. Yeah they must be young.
I heard you can practice on roosters you butcher, after they are dispatched of course, just to get a better idea of what your getting into, and everything is bigger and easier.

Does anyone know anyone who raises Old English bantams? There is a young girl looking for a blue splash roo about a hour south of me.

Go on the Sloansville Poultry Swap page on Facebook. Someone just posted some for sale. I have met him and he raises 100s of OEGBs and if he doesn't have that color, he probably knows where to get some. He lives in Montgomery County, not far from you. He shows a lot and has good stock.

Kinda funny, was reading a old article on capons, they say they make great brooders Lol!.
That's wonderful!!!

@rancher hicks - did you slip me some frizzles in that batch of eggs? I have some looking very cute and curly!

So curly and cute!

Here is #2! The chick on the left is the only hatcher from the 3 BD eggs, and was the last to hatch overall (totally our favorite chick)

An SY striking a pose...

The ducks still find them fascinating... From left to right: D, SY, D, CR, SY

The frizzly CR between 2 D, with the brown in front that I'm not sure which egg they emerged from (had an overnight chicksplosion...)

I can't wait to see how they grow out!!!

That's perfect - I know she is already a member of the group - I'm heading out to her place Monday for Sebbie eggs that she posted there! I'll send her a PM now!! Thanks!!!

I am not sure how that happened though there was a Frizzle roo in the coop for a time. Perhaps she was holding back. It would have to be a EE/Frizzle cross. If you're disappointed you can bring it back.

The couple that got the rooster love him.

I think they are adorable - I haven't had frizzles in years - I did a 4H chicken project exhibit with one of my show hens at the local fair several decades ago (cough..) - the kids loved to pet her curly feathers, she had an amazing temperament, and was a great broody! I'm really excited to have another!!
