NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks -yup - I used the heat treated pallets for both coops. It worked out real well. When I ran out of wood, I used the 'toxic' pallet wood for areas the peeps won't be able to reach.
That looks great!!! I think that we are going to start sourcing some more pallets too. Great use of what would otherwise be doomed for a junkyard.

I had never dreamed they would put so much insecticide and fungicide on those pallets and had to look for the HT symbol...Someone asked me about them once and then I started the research. I already had one pallet painted and backed with garden landscape fabric for a strawberry planter...which is now a lovely flower planter!

Hey guys! I have 2 silkie roosters that are 8 weeks old and I can't keep them where I live. Both are very nice to me, however, one is really starting to chase the others around. Does anyone know of a place I could rehome them in the southern tier area? (Elmira, Binghamton, Oswego, Ithaca etc)

HI all newbies, I'm in Texas and the weather here is not good. Tornadoes north of us here in Conroe.

Nice article in ME on Guineas. I'd quote it but scrolling on this laptop is a royal pain. So I can only stand it so long.

I"m anxious for home but air fare is as much one way as two way when we came down. DW would stay but I want to come home. I will pay it. Thats' how bad I want to come home.

Bored is an understatement.

Watch out, know three kids that got tick bit last week. Daughter number two had one on her yesterday. Time to get more guinea's maybe.

My kids have all already been bit multiple times this season. They are all boys and climb trees and roll in the grass. My 5 year old has had Lyme twice now. I am tempted to get guineas.

I live South of Ithaca and Just finished our Crooked Coop! I will post pictures at some point but am about ready to get chicks for it. Any recommendations of a local hatchery to get them from? have thought about taking the ride up to the poultry hatchery but have read bad reviews. has anyone been there? Thanks!

It's my personal preference to avoid hatcheries and buy from reputable breeders and good solid folks who raise backyard chickens for the joy of it not profit. Chickenstock is coming up soon and there will be chicks for sale there. Also there is usually tailgates at local TSC in the area throughout the summer you have to call and ask when. Sorry I have no experience with the hatchery you mentioned but heard some good things about lancasterfancyfowl, but again no personal experience.

I've actually heard pretty good things about The Poultry Place in Clifton Springs, and am thinking of getting some Brahmas, LF Cochins and turkeys from them.

A good friend of mine, who sells and breeds high quality heritage ducks and other fowl, gets *some* of his birds from there. I know he gets his turkeys at least.

He suggested I check them out if I couldn't source local reputable Brahma and Cochins.
