NY chicken lover!!!!

Happy mothers day to all of you!

Little monsTers went in the coop last night by themselves. That made this chicken momma happy. Boys are rambunctious this morning. The black sexlinks pullets have quite the attitude and it will be interesting to see what happens when I integrate them with their barred rock moms later. Those ladies are top hens in that group.

I would say if the silkie boys are getting along in the large fowl group, put them in there. Just keep an eye out that your b cm roo doesn't decide later to take them out for any violation. We're the silkies raised together? I have 3 who live together with two girls and they almost never quarrel. They don't harass the girls either.

Have a lovely day everyone!

The silkie boys were raised together...which is why I'm a bit surprised that they fight so much. They only have the one sebright hen though so....that may be it. And certain ones harass her. But...she can fly and they can't....so she's able to keep her distance from them.

I haven't posted here in ages, but now that it's finally nice out again I have chickens on the brain! I have a mixed flock of Ameraucanas and Black Copper Marans and I would love to hatch a few chicks to ensure my flock for next year- I'm not quite feeling up to tackling another DIY project at the moment, nor do I really want to go out and buy a new incubator/egg turner. I had heard that the Cornell Cooperative Extension occasionally loans out incubators? Has anyone done this or is there anyone who might have more info? I've been looking around at their website and Googling, but my Google-fu has failed me. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I'm in the hudson Valley and I've seen some decent incubators on Craigslist. Sorry, I don't know about Cornell though.

If he tolerates them ...I would say put them in with the lg flock ..I have 2 roos in one pen ..both full size roos .
longs as # 2 keeps his distance from # 1 they do fine ..
My experience shows that how well Roos get along depends on 2 things.
1. How young they were introduced to each other
2. How many hens are around. Each too needs 5-8 hens to be happy. This is also maximum fertility ratios
