I agree incubate the eggs ...or put the eggs back where she likes them can you net her in the box ?
so she doesnt get out & they cant get in ..
Broody poop is Nasty ...can you let the mama hen & Babies out for a little bit ? so she poops outside

If you move a Broody
1) put gloves on
2) do it at night
3 ) Net her in so she cant move out ...she is more apt to get used to it

Unfortunately, I can't really net her in....it isn't set up well for that. My husband needs to do some modifications to the nest boxes on the broody side. She was off her nest this morning. I'm going to put her back on the othr side. I'm just hoping that, when the chicks hatch, she won't balk so much when I move her AND the chicks back to the broody side. Then again, maybe she'll ferociously protect the chicks and can stay with the main flock. The first broody (the one in my house right now), wasn't a good enough protector...lol.

CLEAN THIS UP. DD, HAS TWO LITTLE ONES AND SIL WAS WORKING SO NOTHING GOT DONE. OTHER THAN TAKING CARE OF THE CHICKENS.

LOST TWO WHILE I WAS GONE THE FIRST WEEK. HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OR WHY BUT SUCH IS LIFE. ONE HEN I THINK GOT BEAT UP BY THE ROOSTERS.

NO MORE SIX WEEK VACATIONS FOR ME. TWO AT THE MOST. MAYBE FOUR. DS IS BEING TRANSFERRED TO...................ALASKA! CAN'T GO UP THERE FOR TWO WEEKS FOR WHAT IT COSTS TO FLY.

Well I didnt do my usual look in on the broodys this morning to see how they were. Just finished bringing fresh water and food to everyone and guess what? Eowyn has 2 blue fluffybutts under her! She was out of the nest box but on the floor next to the feeder and waterer. It was then that I saw the first chick (all dry) and when I picked her up number 2 scooted out! Ran back to the cellar to get chick feed and vita pro b for the waterer. Mom and babies are well and I dipped the chicks beaks in the waterer so they know where it is. Arwin is still sitting tight on the rest of the eggs, which I will candle tonight. I congratulated Legolas on becoming a dad again. He took it in stride. He is a really good at being a dad to all his chicks. Looks like the hatching busts of last year have turned into a boom for this year! I may have some for chickenstock next year.

Hawks were hunting overhead earlier. I am sure the pair have hungry mouths to feed as well. Not on my dime though.

Rancher--you should hire some young guns to come and help you out for a day or two. You can direct them while they do the labor. I used to make good money doing that when I was 13.

I will try to get pics of Eowyn and the babies later. Its too hot to bother them right now. I am so excited!
