I need help identifying some of my chickens...crele orp???

I think it looks like a crele orp. How old is she and where did you get her. Did you have crele orp in your order. Did she have the gold hackle right away or is it getting more gold as she grows?

What I would do:
Leave her in the coop she wants to stay in. You won't win the war of her frantically pacing and flying back. Keep the hatching eggs in the incubator. Let her sit on a nest of dummy eggs or wherever she would like for now. When the eggs are ready to hatch, set up a pen of some sort for her, put the chicks under her at night in that pen. What Cass (a BYC that we haven't heard from in a long time) does is have a small table in her coop, wrap chicken wire around the legs to create a pen. As long as she is in a safe coop, her pen doesn't need to be predator proof, just keep chicks in and naughty chickens out. A large overturned laundry basket may also work. I wouldn't subject her to the rowdy advances of cockerels. She would be so busy chasing them, that another may attack a chick.
Ok, I'll try that if she doesn't settle tomorrow. Tonight when I went out to check on her, she was on the roosting bar in the grow out side. The eggs/nest were left. Being as it was night, I picked her up and put her back on the nest...where she promptly settled right down. I went out a few minutes ago and peeked in, and she's still on the nest. I hope she'll adopt her new spot overnight but I suspect by morning, she'll be at the interior door, pacing to be let into the other side.

The cockerels in with her now are still babies themselves. Only about 8 or 9 weeks or so. Crowing but not making any advances yet. Plus....I still have a different broody in my house with not quite week old chicks.

Crazy this week...Let's see that has been happening...

When I went out last night to close up, I found one of my Delaware hens not looking right..then I picked her up and she is in bad shape. It looks like someone(s) was pecking at her head so bad that it looks like she is scalped! She has a big gaping hole on the top of her head. There is only a little flap of skin left on the side of the hole. So she is inside until it heals a lot. I'm sure that it will be a while with the way that it looks now. I am trying to keep it clean. It could use a stitch..I keep picturing her with her head rapped up. If I knew that she would not scratch and shake it off I would do it..May need to give it a try tomorrow...I think that she is enjoying all the extra attention and treats. Will try to get a picture of it tomorrow. It looked better today then it did last night. You know it is bad when DH is grossed out...but then again he gets grossed out by that kind of things.

Rosita's chicks hatched I pt her in one of the crates to protect her from the other big birds. All of my broody coops are full with other chickens..Need to make some more broody coops or just need to hatch less eggs...yeah like that is going to happen. I put up a little temp fence for the day and let them have some grass time..They are just soooo cute!!!

My white silkie was eyeballing the chicks when they hatched...one of the reasons why I moved them out of the main coop...I knew that if given the chance she would take as many as she could...well I think that just seeing them has gotten her broodiness going. She has been sitting ever since. I wanted to wait a few days to make sure that she was sure and she has been trying to incubate a golf ball ever sine so I think that tomorrow she will get a bunch of duck eggs. I'm done hatching chickens for the year..I am actually way over my limit..some more will have to go..or maybe I'll just build another big coop...talking about coops...

Picked up an old crib from my sister and turned it into a Crib Brooder. Made it so that I can add a partition in the middle and have 2 smaller ones. I think that this one turned out better then the first. I may have to go back and remodel the first one later. But let me tell you that trying to screw anything into a crib is not an easy task. This one was more like rock then oak. Broke 2 of DH's drill bits predrilling holes. It is the only way that I can get a screw into the darn thing..(Going tomorrow to buy some replacement drill bits before I tell him that I broke the other 2) I'm pretty happy with it. I like that I put a mesh bottom in it. I can leave it wire or I can put down some newspaper then add shavings. It will work out nice when I have ducks in there! I put the turkeys in there tonight and they are loving all the extra room. I will have to get moving on their hoop coop soon.

(during construction)

Turkeys love all the room..just need to add some more bedding.

Now that all that is out of the way maybe this weekend I will be able to finish getting all my plants in the garden. I finished up the other day putting all of my tomato plants in...all 80 of them

..now have to finish putting in the rest of my plants..

Quote: I agree incubate the eggs ...or put the eggs back where she likes them can you net her in the box ?
so she doesnt get out & they cant get in ..
Broody poop is Nasty ...can you let the mama hen & Babies out for a little bit ? so she poops outside

If you move a Broody
1) put gloves on
2) do it at night
3 ) Net her in so she cant move out ...she is more apt to get used to it

I thought I was the only one neglecting my garden in lieu of chickens... just getting the rest in yesterday and the last of the flowers tomorrow.

I got the rest of mine in over the weekend except the spaghetti squash, gotta find a home for that. I even mowed the lawn up into a couple long rows so I can use it to mulch the garden this year, then it got rained on. Attempt mulching this weekend.

Morning all. Another hot and humid day today. The sand in the brooder seems to be working out well. Have to add some DE just to be sure things stay dry. My plants look good after all the attention I gave them a couple days ago. They are liking the heat.

Saw a couple of bears on the way home last night. Stopped and watched them for a bit. Not sure if it was a sow and cub or boar and sow. The smaller one looked a little raggedy and was being followed by a much larger bear. It was just beautiful. Big, solid, super black shiny fur. Always nice to see these animals. Saw a doe and fawn as well.

Cheeps be chillin in this heat. Have to candle the eggs under my broodies tonight to see how close they are to hatching.

Staal cool everyone.

That's a good idea!
I just happened upon him (maranfarmer563) or he did me asking in a pm if I bred brown leghorns, cause he seen I had some and was not far from him. I don't, just have some, great egg laying breed. Then I realized he had Malay's when I was talking to him, he actually offered to put a roo on some J giant hens for me. I turned him down, I kinda wanted do it myself, I just wanted to have a, or see a Malay rooster myself. Then I changed direction, chicken math sucks, there is just so many awesome breeds out there, I want them ALL. But I have to be realistic I guess. Right now, still waiting for SandHill to pull through, they said I would get my chicks on May 5

, maranfarmer563 has a lot of rare breeds, I think he even has them long crowers, I know he has cemanis, svarts, marans, etc. Keeps them in tractors for breeding pens, great idea for keeping them separate. I hope he still has the Malay. LadyHawkeAvry is right, super rare and cool, they were one of the breeds that wet into the RIR. Three foot tall! I don't know how they do in our climate, but if they are alive in northern PA, probably ok. I searched the net for any breeders of Malay before and came up with some, dead ends.
If Malay's are hard to find, why would you cross them with JG's? Or am I miss understanding you?
