NY chicken lover!!!!

I won't be able to make it, but others might! Personally, I'm done with shows and chickenstocks and even buying eggs until the ban on shows is lifted, at least. I kid you not, there was a thread on here of someone who bought eggs from a person whose flock then turned out to have the flu. The eggs he bought were tested and came back negative. His flock was tested and came back negative. They were still going to destroy his whole flock. Not quarantine, destroy. The only reason they didn't is he got the media involved, so at the last minute they moved him back to quarantine status, and they could change their mind at any time. This is too scary for me. His birds weren't sick, the eggs he got were fine, and they were still going to destroy his whole flock. Nope. I'm done getting new birds until this thing dies down. Last thing I need is to lose my flock because I bought some eggs or went to a show that someone brought birds to that turned out to come from a flock that had flu.
You know this has been my thought with the Green Fire Sale. Maybe they're getting, while the getting is good. I'm having second thoughts. Perhaps they figure there will be regulations they can't handle.

Where does one go to have the test done? Is it free?

Large eggs at Wegmans are now $2.89 dozen. Above my asking price of $2.50. I just bought more cartons too.

. Im finding myself w a few extra & more due to hatch this week. I'm guessing the AI thing won't be going anywhere very soon. But AI or not, if u visit I'll make u wear shoe covers & wash ur hands. My chickens promise not to laugh at the stylish shoe covers

That sounds good! I work in healthcare, so anything you can make me wear is probably an improvement...

What type of spitz will you have and how much are you asking? My schedule looks rough next week, but the following week (21st) would probably work well. Let me know - the spitzs' are intriguing, although I did promise myself no more chickens this year....currently have 33 so 36 would seem like a round number...

What does everyone think of a fall chickenstock type show the date I am looking at is September 12th

That would work good for me. The more notice I have of an event, the likelier I will be able to schedule myself off. Looking forward to it! The toys you asked for - new or gently used? If you want gently used, I can organize a collection at work,

Some colleagues have an ice cream shop in a small village. They have already been told the mixes for the ice cream will be at least doubling over the coming months!

Boy Rancher, I like them prices a lot better than the originals, do they do this yearly? I would love to have some of those Barbezieux.
How long is the sale for?

I could afford six myself, (I have almost that much $ into the SandHill order for 25 chicks with express shipping figured in) and have them shipped to me but I have to wait and see what happens with SandHill. The wife won't let me have both, or order until I get $ returned if I don't get them. They have to the end of the month.

That's rough with your Mom - hope things calm down a bit for you.........

Today she is fixated on the baby geese. She is waiting for me to bring them inside for the night, and has been checking about every 15 minutes to see if they can come in.
They have a flotilla of adult geese surrounding them. They don't need to come in until dusk. Mom is too far gone to understand how well defended they are. My hubby does though, and wants to videotape them to use for training humans in close protection. According to him, their techniques is flawless...
Sold off my extra young stock, leaving only production and rare breed babies. The Holderread babies are the last of the outside birds to arrive this year, and my flock will be closed out for new birds. I've got fresh pekin eggs cooking, Twin 1 set her clutch, and I may or may not hatch out moulards and saxonies. Still haven't looked at the big incubator eggs, but will be re checking the lockdown eggs this evening... I have plenty to hatch and grow, and will be able to fill my daughter's current orders, so I am set.
Time to go back to building and home improvement in preparation for winter....

Ugh! Winter!! I have loads of wood to cut & split - if I can ever get it out of the wetland.. we just had over 2 inches of rain here, so we are a bit damp. The local village has a flash flood in progress...
After my Anconas' from you and perhaps one other purchase, we too will shut down buying/selling for the winter and concentrate on getting winterized.

Trouble is the white cockerel - Cracks is the sitting hen who was not amused at all her visitors when I opened her crate door.
she is not going to get any peeps from this batch of eggs - weather must have wet them too much. I'll be pulling them soon.

My Spitz and other babies are in the grow out coop now - they get to watch the whole flock and get the daily routine down - prob in 2 weeks will let the mix in the evenings and then become one big flock. ;)

Nice birds! The Millies are flourishing! I will be putting them outside during the day when I get the pen organized. The days are perfect for stretching little wings!
