NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a mixed flock, just sold 4 partridge Rock and 1 buff Orp cockerel from my valentines hatch. I do have 4 mixed breed cockerels left. My mixed hens are great layers. I buy pure eggs from breeders and toss some of my eggs in too when hatching. Just had a broody hatch out 5 EE (1 disappeared?) and 2 Wellsummer. You are welcome to any cockerels.
The breeder I got my one from only has a trio left, so very few hatching eggs available if at all.
how much for 2 and when/where do I pick them up? Is there anything special I will need to do before introducing them into the flock of girls?

I will not be attending the chicken stock. As I did not attend this past one. I thought it would end like this. If I attend an event to meet people from this thread, and make food to share, and contribute to an auction to cover the costs of a portapotty, I do not want to feed the multitudes, who are there because the event promotes a business. The money collected should have been used to defray the costs incurred by inviting the public. If there is a fee for food, people should not be expected to contribute a dish to pass.

I would support a simple chicken get together of people I have shared with on this thread. Then I would be happy to cook something and contribute to saving your septic system, etc by creating something for the auction.

Those are my feelings, and i have considered them carefully and for a long time.
I agree with you totally. I prefer just byc people. Getting together, etc. It was too public for me and impersonal.
Chickenstocks are supposed to be for byc people to get together, swap, sell, buy from each other.

I didn't stay to eat, I had to leave, but I wouldn't like to have to pay an entry fee and then not participate in the food.

But, hey, I won't be attending anymore if they are public, so I guess its a moot issue for me.

Green fire having an August sale.

As for the chickens stock thing, I don't see why we couldn't have both as long as folks know what's what.

Some places aren't so lucky to have farmers markets and such. So bringing folks together in a rural area is a good idea. Long as folks understand the purpose.

Missed the Lavender Fest again this year. Went to the Renassaince fair with DD and her boy friend. To tired to go to both. My point being lavender festival has vendors and artists and such. As well as lavender products for sale.

I have the Regional farmers market for soap and jelly and that kind of stuff.

So perhaps we might call it the BYC picnic.

Course BYCers might want to try to recruit new members at Chickenstock, like I do everytime I see anyone with chicken feed at TSC.

I'd like to do another Granny square swap, if I can get enough folks.

Those GFF sale prices you posted last time interested me, much better than full price. If SandHill didn't send my order I thought of ordering GFF Barbezieux, 'third best tasting chicken in the world' a roasting fowl where bresse is typically poached they say. Well I learned something interesting, took some digging and googling. I wondered what that French magazine considered the #1 tasting chicken breed. Couldn't find the list on the English versions of the mag, had to look it up on the French one and Google translate. I can't for the life of me find it again, I'd like to write down the whole list but haven't been able to find it again.
I figured the #1 would be another rare unheard of breed, probably not available in the US. Nope! Poulet Rouge Redbro Cou Nu. Red Naked Neck Turken! No where seems to sell the red version exclusively, usually mixed different colors for some reason, color probably doesn't matter much anyways. But I did find a place that sells the red, bred for production, S&G poultry. You have to either buy 15 dozen hatching eggs at $5.75dz or a hundred chicks at $1.95ea...! Wooah! Can't do either of those min orders Lol! Then I finally got the SandHill order so no NNs for me at this time...

I would not have expected that result fr the French best tasting list either. Who knew? :). Did u see the post fr barbedwirecat in hatching eggs for sale section? Looks like they've been doing NNs for a while, and may have some of decent quality stock.

Morning all. Was up at 1130 last night because a bear broke into my silkie coop. Ripped the hardware wire out of the door. It got 3 of my juvenile silkies that I had just moves out there. I ran out like a crazed woman screaming at the bear. It had tipped over the coop as well. Dh and I righted it an I saw that only splash and little big man anD one of the babies was in there. I brought the in and put them in a cage downstairs. When my alarm went off this am I heard distress chirps outside. I ran out to find another baby had survived. It ran to me when I called. Poor things are so traumatized. I had to put splash in solitary this am as she was just being nasty to the babies. Little big man is being nice to them and allowing them to hide under him. They will be staying in the basement for a bit while we get the coop back on its base. That bear won't be leaving the next time it comes back if I have anything to do about it. I am so angry and upset over the loss of my babies. I know you all can understand that. Sorry, had to vent. Time to go fix up a temp fence outback for these survivors. Later all.
