NY chicken lover!!!!

My Hubby Bought me a Rooster ..Isnt he cute ?

I found this at Runnings ...they had it cheaper a few weeks ago but I wasnt able to get there then - 40 pounds

Country Max has it for $17 or $18 for a 50# bag. I didn't buy any as I bought some a while ago and didn't need any.

I'm disappointed with Runnings. I've gone back to Agway feeds.

On one occasion I saw a fan blowing on bags of feed and someone here mentioned finding mold in their feed. I did too.

What brought thing to a end was a rain check I got for Plastic. That was months ago and they still have not called me. I found a roll in my garage so I'm okay for now. Walmart has some cheaper but it doesn't say how thick it is and it's two rolls but not long enough for my hoop coop. Two 10X15, but the usual is 10X25 .

So it will be rare for me to shop at Runnings. I did get whole corn for a cheaper price. Lately though none of their ads have chicken feeds in them. Wonder what's up with that.

They do sell outdated feed at a discount too.

My girls are NOT laying. I got one egg today. Big Delores lays an egg nearly every other day. Not even the EE's or Dels are laying. NONE!!

I've switched back to the Egg Producer hoping things will kick in. I have been given them Feather Fixer because so many molted this year. They never molt like the did this year.

I don't know what to do.

must be the day for sweet hubby's. Mine bought me a rooster cookbook holder. Great minds.
How sweet ! Congrats on the new Avatar ...seeming how I am the one who teased you about it ..
thanks for having a good sense of humor

I try. I live in a small zoo so now that I have figured it out I may change my avatar monthly. Well, unless I catch a chicken riding a tractor again. Then I will post that right away. Some things just can't wait.

Mine too ....mine have never molted like they did this year ...either ..still not laying great ..if I get 3 eggs from 16 hens ..if Im lucky ...I get 5 eggs

I keep seeing posts about Runnings and S&P feed. I use blue seal, is it an ok brand? My flock looks healthy.
S & P ?
Blue Seal - ive not heard anything bad about it ... Except from my flock - they didnt like it ..
If your flock looks healthy & is laying ...I wouldnt switch unless you just wanted something different

Because of the age range I'm still using starter/grower for my flock. My 3 oldest pullets are laying daily. My 2 POL pullets are holding out for now. I have 3 more pullets that should be laying in January sometime. The two hens I got from marquisella are older but not laying after coming out of molt and the stress of moving. They get feather fixer and layer feed. I need to adjust as I go. I add layer feed and oyster shell free choice sometimes.

Everyone has their system and what works for them. If you're happy with how things are going you should stick with that.

I'm not happy getting one egg every other day from over 40 birds. Not to mention I like eggs for breakfast nearly every day. Eggs from pastured birds are healthier and my doc says they're okay.

I'm sure other feeds are fine, but I wonder if they're designed for "commercial" breeds, which are developed as egg machines rather than the old dual purpose breeds.

I've wormed some of my girls, w/ Ivermectin, and will do the rest. I'll also order a new wormer advertised in Back Yard Poultry magazine.

Speaking of which TSC hasn't had the new issue of Practical Poultry yet. I hope they don't stop selling it. At $8.50 and issue it's not cheap but I do like it.
