NY chicken lover!!!!

Yes do not buy shipped EE eggs when you can get chicks or eggs from me. I usually set some EE and Del eggs as a control. If they don't hatch then I know something is wrong as they always hatch well. Point, I always have EE chicks to rehome. Though I do like a trade for horse manure when I can get it. :lau      I know folks who give it away for the taking but I'm busy and I can always use more.
We have manure to spare. I would love a few EE come spring. Hubby said no more until April though. In fact just let me know when you want to get manure. I can have a few (as many as 10 or so) bedding bags filled for you anytime. I am all for trades. Maybe we can trade a few chicks come spring as well.

I'm getting some shipped eggs this next week, I know to let them set at room temperature for 12 hours. Any other advice from experienced hatchers?

If u haven't already, I highly suggest reading what @Sally Sunshine has written on the subject. She has very clear and concise direction on how to be successful with hatching shipped eggs. She is also very entertaining and supportive so any of the hatching threads that she is on are helpful and fun to join as well.

My personal suggestions would be to candle & weigh ur eggs if you haven't already and keep good notes. You may also consider leaving the turner off w eggs in for the first day or two of incubation. Sometimes that will give mobile air cells a chance to stabilize.

Have fun!!

I lost my favorite rooster Tesoro this morning to a freak accident :( He was my last boy out of my first rooster, Honey. He was such a sweetheart and had the same good temperament as his father. I found him the coop this morning behind the dog crate I use for broodies. He was still warm and rigor mortis hadn't set it so he had just passed. I'm not sure if he was fighting with Pretty Boy or what but somehow the entire back of his comb was ripped open and he bled out. His wattles were completely pale. I'm gonna miss that boy :( Hopefully one of my Halloween chicks is out of him. I guess this means I can keep that really pretty chick if it does turn out to be a rooster, but I'd rather have had Tess.

He'd really filled out since that full body picture - I wish now I'd gotten a newer picture of him.

Had to take a break to flip the biscotti, but wanted to say I've been feeding Kalmbach starter grower which has almost identical ingredients to Flockraiser. Had to buy Flockraiser because JJ Feeds didn't have the starter stuff in because no many were starting chicks now. I think Jen will get me some, though. Checked the grower finisher and it was only 16 percent.
I've got seven chicks coming up and they're growing fast on the 20% Dumor. Plus I've got three Del pullets

on the Dumor grower, plus the three Daisies and all the Dels since two EE's are in there and they're not yet ready to lay. I may move the Del pullets to the Del coop too.

I've posted all the C. Rocks on CL and the Daisies. I'm getting tired.

Someone offered me the same prices for the Daisies without the rooster but I don't want to separate them as Daisies are hard to come by and I'd like to see someone buy them who will hatch more.

Wish I had room. The marsh daisies are gorgeous!

Yes I need to review her information on hatching. I'm pretty excited, but know hatching rates can be lower with shipped eggs.
