NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh - I understand why she may have asked me to hurry and bury it ... and I totally understand your point ! :) I've been there - my guys found a beaver so putrid it was beyond bloated - and at once started to roll on it in pure joy.

Like you said, I just don't know why this has gone on for 2 years now - the cold shoulder. Oh well. Her dog must have puked up good to start up such a grudge.

Love little beagles ... my grandpa had them - he kept them chained except to hunt - so of course, everytime I went to visit I took each dog off on its own walk on the leash ....

Maybe she took it to the vet ....and then found out it was your innards ?
Or it did it both ways on her expensive rug ? fortune to clean ? Who knows ? Do you dare ask her why ?

CL always has tons of used snow blowers. I'm sure you can find one. Though finding one is easy paying for it is the hard part.

I just laugh when folks talk of heating the coop.   Chickens don't seem to mind the cold. Fact is the hot and humid weather is a killer.  Yours look perfectly fine and happy. :D

What am I going to do about these chickens laying.  A C. Rock laid hers on the floor. I kicked it and broke it. :hit   DW may have to buy eggs to cook for Thanksgiving.

In other news I scared a rabbit cutting wild roses.  What a pain they are. Very invasive. I think I'll be spraying the entire area with round up. These roses are just little white one time things but good for blocking predators. I just don't have time to train them. I bet they're great climbers.

(please note my musings are for the entire group here)
ack!!! Round up. IMO chemicals are a no go for our property. Right now it's just a few chickens and a big veg garden but in years to come it will be larger livestock that will eat everything. We plan on goats, pigs, cows and possibly horses if I can con hubby into it. I know all of them cost money to raise but I also know I am ready to stop feeding my family chemicals. We have cut a lot of the horrible wild rose bushes down then yanked them up with the garden tractor or quad.

I shovel the middle of my run so the chickens to have a free area to walk around. As last winter progressed the center area got smaller and smaller. I dump a bag of leaves in the shoveled area when it is super cold. My chicken coops are pretty much just a place for them to sleep and lay eggs. They spend most of their time outside going in between all the coops seeing if they can find any of the goodies that are around. I also set up feeding stations to put the bowls of food. I don't feed any of my chickens in the coops so I needed to find a way to protect the food from the elements so I made feeding boxes. I also shovel a maze/loop for the dogs to have room to run and play in...We are looking for little snow blower that will work for the runs, last winter it about killed my back. I'm hoping to have one before the snow flies, but if not I will be out shoveling.:idunno What we do for our pets.
I love the feeding station idea. Guess what the kids and I are building over thanksgiving break. Yup, feeding stations. The monsters love to climb in, over and under stuff so they just might get a full blown "jungle gym " before long. They already have a swing and balance beam.

Either way she shouldn't hold a grudge, at least in my opinion. If you let your dog run loose and it gets into something on someone else's property since you didn't bother to keep it on yours...well, I think that's the owner's fault. Just like I think it's the owner's fault if a dog gets shot trespassing and killing someone's livestock. This is an opinion I developed after my flock was terrorized by the neighbor's dog, and after I talked to them repeatedly and another chicken owning neighbor flat out told the owner they were going to shoot it, they still let it roam. My opinion is if you let your dog roam you're asking for whatever you get. But some people unfortunately can't seem to grasp it's their responsibility to keep the dog on their property, and then blame others when their dog gets into something it shouldn't or gets injured or sick.

It's not okay though if someone does something on your property that harms your dog. For example one year a hunter apparently hunted on our land without our permission, field dressed the deer, and left it all for our dog to find.

This is totally not aimed at anyone in here, by the way. Just wanted to share my opinion on the matter :)

I always keep a back up rooster.  Right now I'm hoping the only marans chick to hatch is a rooster. I've got two C. Rocks, three Del, one EE and one Marsh Daisy.  The EE rooster is easy to replace. Oh and I've got Shorty the Araucana.
right now I have 2 boys. As long as they keep being gentlemen they will both stick around. I would love to eventually have a Roo for each breed I have and some spitzhauben girls for the boys I have. Big dreams right now, gotta build a new garage for hubby first so I can move all his stuff out of the barn. Then it will be a 16×24 2 story chicken coop. Lots of entrances and ladders for everyone. Then I just have to aquire a boat load of fencing.

Fencing - if you have a local dump, keep your eyes open for used, beaten up snow fencing. You can usually find some right after the snow stops........

That's a great idea. I could fence a lot like that. Garden , chickens, rabbits and newly planted trees. Early spring I will have to hit the bumps around me, I think there are 4 in an hours drive.

I've been draggin fencing up from the back that had those blasted roses growing through it. I scare a poor rabbit that I think had taken up shelter under some chain link that is there as well. I think I'll have to cut the chain link into smaller pieces. The thing is this is the old and heavier gauge stuff.

I have a roll on the side of the house but I can't figure out how I'll use it. I'd have to rent a post driller and get someone to help me. Plus buy posts.

On the Round up? I don't want to use it but there are so many of these roses I don't know what else to do. They are hard to kill. I once tossed some cuttings in a raised bed and they started to take root.

I did use some salt to kill some Buckthorn trees, but there are a ton of them too. Round up would not work on them. I cut the tree then wrap a cardboard tube to the cutting and fill it with salt. I'll need to do a ton of work to get all of them.

Right now I've been piling them up over a fire ring and plan to burn them. When invasive things get a hold it can be hard to get rid of them or at keep them under control. There are no deer. Only the occasional one passing through.

I'd like to plant some evergreens in the area not a garden.

I was contacted about my chickens for sale and someone was supposed to stop today but was a no show. I called them but their mailbox was full. They have not answered my email.

Parker Farm in Truxton. My brother built a log cabin there years ago but moved back closer to the city. Anyhow I take it personal when folks contact me but then don't get back to me. Why can't they just say they changed their mind. It's no big deal.
