NY chicken lover!!!!

My girls love hamburger fat mixed in with their evening meal. They only get it once a week, because that's all we eat hamburger. They have also developed a taste for horse manure, is that safe? The horses are healthy and happy but it seems like a strange snack to me.

I lost my favorite rooster Tesoro this morning to a freak accident :( He was my last boy out of my first rooster, Honey. He was such a sweetheart and had the same good temperament as his father. I found him the coop this morning behind the dog crate I use for broodies. He was still warm and rigor mortis hadn't set it so he had just passed. I'm not sure if he was fighting with Pretty Boy or what but somehow the entire back of his comb was ripped open and he bled out. His wattles were completely pale. I'm gonna miss that boy :( Hopefully one of my Halloween chicks is out of him. I guess this means I can keep that really pretty chick if it does turn out to be a rooster, but I'd rather have had Tess.

He'd really filled out since that full body picture - I wish now I'd gotten a newer picture of him.

Sorry for your loss :(.
You've had a stretch of not so great luck lately. I'm sending you lots of cyber hugs and positive vibes your way.

I took a class that addressed rotational grazing a long time ago...I think they put out the cows, then the sheep and goats and the last is the chickens. Large animal to small. So, the chickens are the final clean up crew!

I have four isbar eggs in the incubator right now, not quite sure if they'll be blue or splash. Ordered from a byc'er. I won't keep all if you'd be interested.
Thank you so much for the offer. I sincerely appreciate it. I am just going to hold. I know if I mate my blue female with one of the black isbars i have a 25% chance still for a blue!

I really messed up last night ...I am glad there where no predators around ...
My chickens were really free ranging ...

I was dreaming that people up the road had chickens this morning ...roosters were crowing
At some point I realized there was a Rooster in my front yard crowing at 7:38..
I jump out of bed ...put up the shade my flock is in my front yard...
Im like how did they get out ?
Well I left the gate on the coop open all night ..I dont know how I did that...
I dont think I checked it like normal ...before I go to Bed ..
Well everyone made it safely through the night and were having a good old time this morning

they are locked up tonight

Anyone have Faverolles?

I don't now, but have in the past. If you can hatch eggs, I can recommend several good breeders to get you started. Just a warning though that both Metella and I have owned them and found them to not be very hardy. Hers was from a hatchery and mine from a breeder and they just weren't tough birds. They are also extremely docile and tend to be at the bottom of the pecking order and bullied in mixed flocks, so you might want to keep just a separate flock of them if you do get them.
