Im thinking that those were from him too ..just got put aside somehow
Anyhow I wondered about ideas to keep the cartons smelling fresh or at least decent.
I use the paper type and I keep them in my barn where it's super cold right now. The cold seems to work. I'm not sure why they would stink though.
You could put a small scented candle in there with them ...longs the new ones are stored in dry place they shouldnt smell or pick up a smell

my flock doesn't make me sick exactly, but I have alergies to dust, dander, and yupp you guessed IT FEATHERS. My doc is an old time farm man so his solition wasn't stay away it was , get this, spend more time with them. It builds an immunity to them.

So I'm with Gramma they are not the problem. Its probably the up and down weather. Maybe instead of getting rid of them all just down size to one coop close to the house. There is always a way.

I'll try not to be hasty. I had two hens in the nest boxes tonight. EE's. I left them there to see what's what. They're facing in and it's not easy to get them out.

I'll continue to wear a mask when going out.

I have thought to get rid of the c. Rocks and move the Marans to where they are. That way I'd have three coops but all inside the yard.

I haven't heard back about the Daisies so I'm not hopeful. He is in Cortland.

how many would you need to rehome to be down to a manageable number?

Some Sad News here ..Sat night I lost my little Grey Goose .. I dont know what they got into last week as 2 of them had this issue.. Chippie resolved it by herself She (GG )had a Sour Crop for a few days ...I should have tried something before I let her go to bed ... I saw her lay down ..I think she breathed in the liquid & died . I found her sunday morning ..she was a sweet beautiful bird .i so enjoyed watching her grow . She was a little over 4 months . Maybe I can hatch another like her ..she was from my flock I did find some things . to treat sour crop ...I wish I had tried them that night ..I blame myself that she died . They do have capsules for this https://www.twincitypoultrysupplies.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=210 https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/917522/crop-bound-capsules-impacted-crop-sour-crop Can be Bought at most stores - Docusate Sodium capsules (Colace)- a stool softener. I never used to have these issues with sour Crop ... so what have I been doing different ? I have stopped using Apple Cider vinegar in their water regularly .. Some studies say it stops them from absorbing calcium .. im going to do it regularly now
I'm sorry you lost Grey Goose she was a pretty one. I don't think you should blame yourself though, things happen and most of it is out of our control even when we see the symptoms...still unaware of the cause. Last fall when I thought my birds had Marek's disease... I now think the ate a poisonous plant. I read what was toxic and transfer all of those plants and flowers out to the front yard. But there were weeds that I didn't know the name of so I didn't know they were toxic.I found out later when I bought a book about herbal remedies...:( I hope you get another girl like that.

Yes, I have a 16-year old cat who has been diabetic for 9 years. My vet calls him the miracle kitty and always asks me what I am doing to keep him going. Almost lost him a couple of times with liver and kidney problems and he is almost blind from cataracts, but still enjoying his life. He gets two shots a day.
Awe so cute!!! Looks just like my kitty of 14yrs Tyler. Good job on keeping the kitty going. He must feel bunches of love to keep on keeping on. I don't think that anyone or anything stays for so long unless they are greatly loved.

Rancher... sorry copied the wrong post.

Chickens have dander just like other animals cats and dogs, that would be more likely to cause an allergic reactions causing you to use your inhaler more ...Asthma???. Try an OTC allergy med it should help. If it doesn't get a prescription allergy med. All is in the amounts breathed in and the amount the are shedding cells and the fact the coups are more enclosed.
Then there is the added allergy tolerance load... over time you can become allergic to things you never were before.
I was never allergic to cats or dogs ... now I am. And I have Asthma so if I don't make my dosing of meds I can exhibit cold like symptoms.I hope this helps and you feel better.
I'm sorry to say that being exposed to a pathogen does not build immunity it builds the reaction to that allergic pathogen...and possibly to the point of anaphylaxis. (closure of the airway)
Dirt exposure is completely different the earth has germs that if you aren't exposed to it you never build a tolerance.
However comparing germs to an allergen is like comparing an Apple to an eagle... not even in the same ballpark. Eat dirt but don't breath the allergens without meds. ;)

Very good point. Maybe local honey to introduce the alergen to the system? Could that be why my doc said to just keep working? We eat lots of very local honey.

Hi everybody! Happy new year! I just got my five chicks today. Two weeks old. But I have a question. What's starter food supposed to look like? The one I bought looks almost as big as aquarium gravel. Is that normal? I thought it would be finer, almost powdery.

The bag sys nothing. It has the company's name, and it says poultry. It doesn't even say starter feed. This is what the feed looks like.
